A Message from Principal Dumar

Bradfield Families,

I hope you and your families enjoyed a wonderful Spring Break. It is always nice to have a little R&R, but there’s nothing like being in the building with our Broncos. We sure did miss them.

It is hard to believe we are on the home stretch of the 2023-24 school year. Time really flies when you are having fun. We will be finishing strong as we continue to focus on academics and helping each Bronco grow as well as the many events on the horizon. Please check the calendar portion listed below for important dates such as: 3rd/4th STAAR Assessment, Family Picnic, Great Friends Day, 3rd-4th Bike Rodeo, Field Day and 4th Grade Graduation.

I am honored to announce Valarie Proudfoot as Bradfield’s Teacher of the Year. She has dedicated her life to teaching students and teachers. She loves working alongside teachers to create lessons and help elevate our curriculum. Valarie is a life-long learner who builds strong relationships with our Broncos and truly makes a difference in their lives. Congratulations, Mrs. Proudfoot! We love you.

Congratulations to Madelyn (Marks) Wensinger for being announced as Bradfield’s Paraprofessional of the Year! It is such a blessing when our Broncos grow up and return home to make a difference in the lives of our students. We are thankful for her dedication, positive attitude and contagious smile. Congratulations, Madelyn! We are proud of you.

Bradfield Dads Club hosted a Dad-Son Breakfast this week where the Scots Captains shared their words for success on and off the field with guest speaker, Coach Allen. Our Broncos enjoyed getting to visit with the Scots, caught some pretty cool swag and stood in line for autographs. It was a special time for some of our dads as well because they also played for Coach Allen. What a legacy?! Thank you, Dads Club for making this possible and a special thank you to Ms. Susan and her team for providing a yummy breakfast to a packed house.

Change for Children’s is a powerful program benefiting Children’s HealthSM while teaching our children the importance of giving back to their peers in need. Thank you to our Broncos and families for partnering with the Women’s Auxiliary to Children's Medical Center in collecting coins to benefit the Pet Therapy program at Children’s Health. We are so proud of the overwhelming support and the students enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with the therapy dogs on campus. A special thank you to our counselor, Mrs. Adams and volunteers, Meredith Baird and Jessica Rugg who helped coordinate this meaningful event. Stay tuned for the dollar amount raised to make a Change for Children’s.

On April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross North and Central America creating a path of totality. Teachers have been busy planning educational experiences for our students. PreK-4th graders will experience this phenomenon around 1:40 PM. The District has purchased glasses for all students and staff. We can’t wait! Be on the lookout for more details.

Last week’s Writer of the Week was Fourth Grader, Westbrook Wallace, from Mrs. Barnes’ class. His assignment was to write a constructive response to a poem about the change of seasons. Westbrook did a fantastic job providing text evidence about the change from winter to spring while still showcasing his voice. He also described what signs to look for to know spring is on its way. Thank you, Westbrook, for keeping the attention of the reader and teaching us as well. Great job!

I encourage you to check out this week’s Broncoland photos.

April 1 is a bad weather make-up day.

This spring, HPISD will consider the adoption of new instructional resources (textbooks) for K-12 Science Courses, Personal Financial Literacy & Economics, and technology applications courses including computer science and engineering. Copies of the resources being considered for adoption are on display at the HPISD administration building now through Friday, March 22.  We encourage the HPISD community to come take a look at our options and provide feedback on these resources.

You can also view the resources & provide feedback online.

HPISD is looking for the "unsung heroes" who are going the "extra mile" in serving our students, staff, families and community. In the spring, the District "Heart At Work" award committee will review all those recognized on each campus and choose one professional and one paraprofessional from each campus and the District office to be honored and awarded $500 at the annual staff recognition banquet.

"Heart At Work" nominations can be submitted by teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents, families, and anyone interested in the well-being of our HPISD community. Candidates can not be nominated by relatives.

All nominations must be submitted on the "Heart At Work" award nomination form and sent electronically from now through March 31, 2024. Nominees submitted after March 31, will be considered in the proceeding award cycle of winners. Learn more.

A Message from our PTA President, Laura McCallan

I hope everybody had a fun, safe, and relaxing Spring Break! It’s hard to believe we only have 9 weeks left of the school year. But with Book Fair, Great Friend’s Day, Bike Rodeo, Field Day, and more on the horizon it’s going to be a busy 9 weeks!

Thank you for your support at our Open House & Art Show before we left for the break. I’d like to thank Erin Fuge & Catherine Evans for co-chairing a successful Art Show this year. I hope you enjoyed your child’s out-of-this-world artwork!

I’d also like to thank Sari McCoy & Allison Small, our Gift Chairs. Sari & Allison led the charge as we passed out Spring Break cash bonuses from the PTA to all of our staff members before the break. Thank you ladies for coordinating this effort!

Thank you to Anna Jackson, who with the help of Regina Campbell has completed a stunning yearbook and turned it into the publisher for printing. As I’m sure you can imagine, the yearbook requires a lot of coordinating and detail oriented work. We are so appreciative of this team for taking on this task. I can’t wait to see our books in May!

Lastly, before we left for the break, the PTA Executive Team met with Principal Dumar and other staff members to review and approve the school Spring Gift Request. I am excited to announce that the PTA approved a gift to the school in the amount of $297,396, and the Dads Club approved a gift in the amount of $21,200. Some examples of items in the Spring Gift request this year are: Technology needs, playground safety improvements, ELAR and learning supplies, support for STEAM (think fish tank and other critters!), math manipulatives, and much more. Thank you Broncos for your help this year in helping us to support our school!

Go Broncos!
