Listening to Our Community

“At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.”
― Denzel Washington
As I searched for the right quote to start this article, I realized this quote from Denzel Washington comes the closest to expressing my personal life philosophy.
As humans, we spend much of our life working to survive, improve, win, accumulate, and succeed. Yet, ultimately, I believe we are on this earth to care for each other.
| | | |
One reason I know this is true is because it is a win-win. Life is happier and more fulfilling when we care for others -- and at different points, we are also the ones being cared for.
Why am I starting with this rather deep topic? Because I want to tell you about a decision the NACM BCS staff have made to give back to our community -- and we want to invite you to join us.
Announcing Our Community Giving Partner
I am excited to announce that NACM BCS has selected Food Lifeline as our community giving partner, and we invite you – our members and customers -- to join us in giving back.
Food Lifeline is the “food bank for food banks.” This organization gathers food from farmers, grocery stores and other partners, then distributes it to over 300 food banks in 17 Western WA counties. Without Food Lifeline, the local food bank in your neighborhood might not be able to serve your neighbors experiencing hunger. For some great stats on the impact of their work, check out this page.
We chose to partner with Food Lifeline because of their great mission: feeding people experiencing hunger today while working to end hunger tomorrow. AND because they truly value volunteers and provide many meaningful ways for us to participate.
Join us!
Our first opportunity to get involved begins in July.
NACM BCS will participate in the Food Frenzy competition hosted by Food Lifeline. During this friendly competition, companies earn points through volunteering, food drives fundraising and social media participation.
We would love for you to join us in one -- or all-- of these opportunities:
· Volunteer with us on July 21st from 1:30-3:30 p.m. when we will work at the Food Lifeline warehouse in south Seattle, packaging food. To participate, email ericaw@nacmbcs.org and she’ll add you to our volunteer roster. Bring another team member! Kids over age 10 are also welcome, so bring your kids if they are looking to fulfill their community service hours needed for school. (Space is limited to 20 volunteer spots per event. If this one fills up, we’ll schedule another one!)
· Make a financial donation by visiting the NACM’s Credit for a Cause fundraising page before July 31. Every gift helps, whether it’s $10, $20, $50, $100 or more!
· Participate in our food drive by dropping off canned or packaged food donations at the NACM office in Burien, Tuesday through Thursday, by July 30. OR better yet, register for the Pitchbook-hosted, Credit-On-Tap event on July 29, and bring your donation with you!
This is the 35th anniversary of the Food Frenzy competition. It is held each summer because the need for food assistance increases when children are not receiving meals at school. Together, we have a chance to make a real difference for families in our community!
In the coming months, we’ll share additional opportunities for you to volunteer with us and contribute food donations at future events. We look forward to building community, having fun, and serving our neighbors alongside of you.
As always, if you have questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to email me at lauram@nacmbcs.org. I would love to hear from you!

Our partners at TCL&M offer useful educational material through their regular newsletter. Take a look at this current entry from the most recent newsletter and then consider subscribing to the publication. Click on the title or image below.
In the latest episode of the Credit on the Go podcast series, TCLM’s Bob Shultz sits down with Claire Sandbrook, CEO of Shergroup, for a practical and insightful discussion on one of the most challenging realities facing today’s finance and credit teams: cross-border debt recovery.
For organizations operating globally, unpaid receivables are rarely straightforward. Once a customer defaults across jurisdictions, the issue quickly moves beyond collections and enters a far more complex environment involving legal systems, asset tracing, enforcement strategy, operational coordination, and risk management. This episode explores how companies can approach those challenges with greater structure, visibility, and confidence.
