VBS Outreach Wrap-Up

This week, we delivered 400 breakfast bars and a large box of toys and coloring supplies to Casa Alterna which they will give to people waiting in line, sometimes for hours, at the ICE Atlanta Field Office downtown. Anton Flores-Maisonet, Casa Alterna's Executive Director, was very appreciative of our donation as he said the number of people in line at ICE has grown recently. Thank you to all the VBS participants who donated so generously to this outreach project!

Prayer Vigil for Extra-Ordinary Times

The prayer vigil for our country will return on the first Sunday of every month: June 7th, July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th. We will use the Book of Common Prayer to help guide our petitions for peace, justice, and flourishing in our country.

Bishop Rob Wright to visit St. Bede's

on Sunday, September 13

Rite of Reception into the Episcopal Church

If you have recently come into the Episcopal Church and have participated in one of our Episcopal 101 classes, you may wish to be formally "Received" into the Episcopal Church by Bishop Wright during his visit.

You can participate in this rite of "being received" even if we have already transfered your membership from your former parish/congregation or denomonation.

If you have questions, please reach our to Chad or Laura in the office to see if this is the "right rite" for you!

The opening reception was well attended. Our Delkalb CEO, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, and our  DeKalb County Super 7 representative, Dr. LaDena Bolton,  were both there almost the whole time. And our Tucker Mayor, Anne Lerner, also attended as well as two of Tucker’s City Council members! The art this time is wonderful. Take some time to enjoy it.

The jewelry and the pottery in the glass case will be there through September as well. If there’s any interest in any of this, just leave a check with Laura Or text Lois Shingler at 404-593-9001

Many, many thanks to everybody who brought food for hors d’oeuvres, helped clean up and set up!

Finding Healing

for Our Divided Country

Now meeting weekly

on Monday evenings on Zoom

from 6:30 to 8 pm.

In person every Thursday morning

9 to 10 am

at Mint Coffeehouse

3926 Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker

A discussion group, grounded in prayer, for those who have questions, concerns, and emotions that feel too big, and need a safe place to process with others.

We will see what participants need from this group. Perhaps it will just be a place to express what you are feeling, or maybe some will want to know what action can be taken.

And we will pray together.

Some questions to consider:

How are you doing, and what are you feeling?

Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?

How can we live the values of our faith

in the face of conflicting public policy?

Facilitators: Muriel Diguette and Molly Graves

Please contact Muriel Diguette at digfam@att.net

if you are interested in joining.

Sweet(s) Summer Sundays

Community Support

The Outreach Committee is beginning a new partnership with Los Amigos de la Communidad Georgia. This organization was founded several years ago by parishioner Maria Cristina de la Cruz and two partners. They serve the Latino community.

The Outreach Committee has sent them a $1,000 donation to support their work with families who are struggling to provide food for their families, pay rent and other bills after losing their breadwinners to detention and/or deportation. We hope to work more closely with them in the near future and are excited to support our neighbors in need.

As we all watch the tragic events of violence escalate in Iran, Jerusalem, and Palestine, it is so important to keep the people of the Holy Land in our prayers.

Family Ministries Micropractice

Join our households with

birth through elementary aged children

in this simple intentional practice

as we bring our learning from the lectionary

into our everyday lives.

You may wish to conclude this micro-practice with this prayer:

God who listens,

Thank you for brave voices of love.

When someone is hurting or left out, help us show brave love, too.

May we listen like Jesus, change when we need to,

and share your life-giving love with everyone.

Amen.

Prayer shawls are used to provide comfort, acknowledge joy or appreciation, say goodbye, or any other reason to share God’s love. They may be used in prayer, and the act of making them is prayer. Making them with friends is church.

The Two Marys: Devotion in Seventeenth-Century Sacred Music

St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church

Saturday, August 29 at 7:30 pm

This program explores two of Christianity’s most beloved women through the expressive language of seventeenth-century music. Works honoring Mary, the Mother of Jesus, celebrate her compassion, humility, and enduring place in Christian worship, while settings inspired by Mary Magdalene illuminate the steadfast devotion of the disciple who remained beside Jesus through his suffering and became the first witness to the risen Christ. Together, these complementary perspectives reveal the richness of Baroque composers’ engagement with faith, hope, love, and the human experience.

For those who approach these works from a faith tradition, we invite you to reflect deeply on the texts as they unfold. For all listeners, regardless of background, we hope this music offers an opportunity to experience the expressive beauty of a period that forever changed the language of Western music.

Admission: $20 general admission. Payment by cash, Venmo, or PayPal at the door.

New Digital Assisted Listening System

for St. Bede's Nave

Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.

The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.

The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.

Please let us know if you need help connecting!

St. Bede's Prayer List

A note about our prayer list:

We have reorganized our prayer list and are trying to make it more manageable going forward. Names will remain on the prayer list for 3 weeks unless otherwise requested. If you have placed someone on the prayer list and you would now like that person removed, please notify the office. Please request removal only for names which you have placed on the list. We are always happy to request prayer for our parishioners and our extended community.

Please contact Laura Pittman in the church office to add or remove names from the prayer list.
