Spring Travels, Summer Shows
Naked Ladies are blooming, tomatoes are ripening, paintings are getting finished, and I am planning my fall shows. Labor Day Weekend is technically in the summer, yet for many of us it marks the beginning of autumn.

This coming Saturday, 6 days from this email, is the start of the Kings Mountain Art Fair (KMAF) which includes all three days of Labor Day weekend: Saturday, August 31, through Monday, September 2.
This show is outdoors in the Woodside Redwoods off highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard.) KMAF is a benefit for the King’s Mountain Fire Brigade and the local grammar school. The show is organized and run completely by volunteers, residents of the community on the mountain.

At KMAF, I will be featuring paintings from my Big Sur retreats, central coast landscapes, and the Sierra Mountains.
This show is free to all! You can find my booth using the maps offered at the show entrances off Skyline Drive - I'm down in the Fine Art Glen, near the live music, surrounded by the Redwoods.
Giclee prints of my art will also be available. Come by to see my recent work and say "Hi."

The 480 Lighthouse Gallery, Pacific Grove, California | | |

Some of my large paintings are now at a new gallery in Pacific Grove, 480 Lighthouse. The gallery is just south of the Pacific Grove Art Center.
My paintings Cypress Dance and Grand Coast will be on exhibit through December 31, 2024. The current hours of the gallery are Saturday 10am-5pm , Sun-Fri 10-3pm.

Adventures Painting in the Open Air | |

Rocks Ranch, 11x14, oil
Recent plein air adventures have included painting from the overlook at Prospect Drive above Capitola Beach, on Blacks Beach in Santa Cruz, and at an Open Trail Day at Rocks Ranch.
Rocks Ranch is a recently acquired part of the Santa Cruz Land Trust properties. Rocks Ranch was purchased to preserve open space for native species and to be part of a wildlife corridor which will eventually include a land bridge over Highway 101 south of Gilroy. The ranch is studded with large boulders, oak meadows, and rolling grasslands.

When Richard and I visited Rocks Ranch, we saw large and small prints on the trail of a mountain lion and her cub, prints nearly as large as my outstretched hand!
The young men helping out at the Open Trail Day, were very kind and drove my painting gear and I to a vista point where the grassy valley stretched out in front of me and a large oak shaded myself and my canvas. I painted from an oak shaded spot while Richard hiked 4 miles in the afternoon heat. We each felt we got the best of the afternoon.

Santa Cruz Open Studio 2024 | |

In October, I will be participating in the Arts Council's Open Studio tour here in Santa Cruz County. My south county weekends will be October 12, 13 as well as the encore weekend October 19 &20, 11AM to 5PM.
I also welcome visitors to my Soquel studio at other times. Just contact me for a time and day.
