Karman Line Annexation Vote, Legislature Attacks Citizens Initiative, Illegal Immigrant Protection Bill, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • The Mississippi Office of Governmental Efficiency found $400 million in waste in government programs in the state. How do you think Colorado would fare under similar scrutiny?

  • We mentioned last week that the Colorado legislature has passed a bill giving government agencies more time to respond to CORA requests. Media is exempt from this rule. Did you know that only 6% of all CORA requests in Colorado come from media organizations? The balance of requests comes from individuals investigating government actions. Seems pretty obvious why this bill was enthusiastically passed.

  • Public servants in Colorado also want to make it more difficult and costly for you to get a measure on a statewide ballot. This bill, if passed, would allow the Colorado Secretary of State to charge $1500 for a citizen’s ballot initiative. It would also shorten the time window for collecting petition signatures, an idea that voters rejected in 2024. They asked voters, and voters said no. Now, they will shove it down our throats. Not only do they want to make it more difficult for citizens to submit initiatives to voters, but they also want to make money off those citizens who do get through their onerous process. They don’t work for you. They work for themselves.

  • Michael Bennet, the career democrat politician, wants to be your governor. Some are suggesting he is Jared Polis’ chosen successor.

  • Current Democratic state senator Jeff Bridges is vying for the Colorado State Treasurer seat.

  • Soft-on-crime legislation is such an obvious problem that even the far left Aurora Sentinel has noticed. Yes, repeatedly releasing violent offenders from custody leads to bad results.

  • Our friends at Advance Colorado have published a new study detailing the terrible impact of fentanyl in Colorado and how the soft-on-crime laws passed in recent years make the problem worse.

  • The date has been set for the Karman Line annexation vote. Citizens will get to decide this flagpole annexation issue, rather than the city council. Voting day will be on June 17th.

  • A recent poll has shown democrats are losing favor among Colorado voters. Don’t count on any relief from their unconstitutional legislative madness anytime soon, though. These same voters who were surveyed are also happy with their elected state politicians.

  • Between 2022 and 2025, the Colorado government spent $8.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on mental health care. At the same time, it seems as if mental health problems in our state are getting worse. Should the government even be involved in mental health care? What are we getting for our money?

  • Speaking of mental health in Colorado, what impact did the COVID chaos of just a few years ago have on the mental health of Colorado citizens? Our friends at The Rocky Mountain Voice are publishing a series of articles addressing this very question. Was COVID used by Governor Polis and other radicals to subvert the citizens’ relationship to government? You can read Part 1 and Part 2 of The Rocky Mountain Voice series, The COVID Chronicles, and decide for yourself.

  • The Colorado legislature is reviewing a bill to protect illegal immigrants from the lawful application of federal immigration law. This bill is very likely to pass. They take from you and reward illegal aliens.

  • We are curious what Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera does to deserve her current double salary. Does anyone out there know?

  • Many of the largest utility companies in the state are beginning to see the folly of Governor Jared Polis’ transition to so-called green energy. They are beginning to sound the alarm.

  • The proposed Buc-ees development is back on the table in Palmer Lake. This is despite the recall effort that is underway in the town.

  • A homeless camp that existed for years is finally being cleaned up in Lakewood. Neighbors are ecstatic.

  • The City of Colorado Springs is asking for citizen input to determine housing needs in our region. Please feel free to provide your feedback.

  • Section 8 housing assistance in Colorado Springs is being put on hold. Officials at the Colorado Springs Housing Authority cite budget concerns for this pause.

  • Recreational marijuana sales will kick off shortly inside Colorado Springs city limits. Does legalized marijuana hurt mental health overall?

  • The federal government had an extra $5 million in taxpayer dollars lying around, so they sent it to Aurora, Colorado, to plant trees. As a reminder, this same federal government has us all nearly $37 trillion in debt.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
