International Film Showcase
It took us over three years to get permission to show this extraordinary film. This is an exclusive USA theatrical premiere. The film won 5 Cesars (The French Oscar)
At the El Campanil, Antioch on June 27.
At the Jarvis Conservatory , Napa on July 17.
Plot Summary
November 1918. A few days before the Armistice, Édouard Péricourt saves Albert Maillard's life. These two men have nothing in common but the war. Lieutenant Pradelle, by ordering a senseless assault, destroys their lives while binding them as companions in misfortune. On the ruins of the carnage of WWI, condemned to live, the two attempt to survive. Thus, as Pradelle is about to make a fortune with the war victims' corpses, Albert and Édouard mount a monumental scam with the bereaved families' commemoration and with a nation's hero worship.
As the devastating World War I finally comes to its end, one last charge into the frantic and muddy battleground will inextricably bind the lives of infantry soldiers, Albert Maillard and Edouard Péricourt, after following their bloodthirsty captain Pradelle's absurd orders. Presumed dead, the two loyal companions will concoct a daring plan--or, better yet, a shameless scam--to get their hands on some easy money in post-war Paris, while in the meantime, Pradelle is already cashing in on the myriads of war casualties. Always behind elaborate masks, the artistic Péricourt and his partner in crime will manage to stay effortlessly in the background, but for how much longer?

Moraga Art Gallery's New Show "Midsummer Synergies"
The Moraga Art Gallery presents a new summertime show, "Midsummer Synergies," open from July 15th to September 19th, featuring the vibrant creations of two Lafayette artists: ceramicist Donna Arganbright and Danguole Rita Kuolas, a printmaker and etching specialist.
Along with an diverse array of appealing mugs, trays, and candle-holders, the Arganbright collection includes unique "attitude figures"-- vases, each one different and each one rendered as a posturing human figure with hands on hips and clothed in a fresh, bright-hued glaze.

Kuolas attributes her etching expertise to a lifelong fascination with the drawn line that has evolved into environmental concerns, as evinced not only by renderings of plant life, but also replacing the usual solvents and acids in her work with water-soluble inks, non-toxic etching processes and by recycling scraps of etching paper into new sheets. The images in the exhibit show the artist branching out from her usual abstracted imagery into more naturalistic representation. Kuolas will try to demystify printmaking by doing a demonstration on August 8th from 1-4p.m. at the gallery.

The show also includes stunning papier-maché sculptures by guest artist Francine Garcia and scores of works by the gallery's roster of sculptors, painters, jewelers, photographers, ceramicists, woodworkers, printmakers, and more.
The gallery is located in the Rheem Shopping Center at 432 Center Street, Moraga, and is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 5:00 pm. For more information, visit moragaartgallery.com or call (925) 376-5407.

In 1941, the Park Theater came into being out of a desire for arts, culture, entertainment – and community – in downtown Lafayette. This is 2021 and those desires have not changed. In fact, with the far-ranging impact of the global pandemic on all of our lives, they are even greater than before. Although it seems like eons ago, it was only in 2005 that the Park’s iconic marquee went dark. Now, thanks to the tireless efforts of the hardy band of volunteers who make up the nonprofit Park Theater Trust, that marquee is poised to cast its welcoming glow once more. TPTT has just launched an $8mm capital campaign to finish its acquisition of the property and initiate the remodel. If all goes according to plan, the cinema will reopen late 2022, the year of the Park’s 81st birthday. TPTT just received its third consecutive LCF Excellence Grant, which has been critical to progressing its mission to revitalize the beloved theater into an accessible and inclusive, community-centered cinema, arts, and culture hub.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to save this architectural gem. Minimal fundraising after the opening will be just enough to maintain the Trust’s nonprofit status. The time to get involved is NOW! This is also the chance – everyone’s chance – to help lead the economic recovery of our very special town. The Park Theater can light up Lafayette again but to bring it back to life, TPTT needs community - we need YOU! Please visit www.parktheatertrust.org to see how together, we can create a downtown space designed to entertain and engage us all. Together, let’s light up the Park – and light up Lafayette!
RECONSTRUCT. REPURPOSE. RENEW.
The mission of The Park Theater Trust is to restore and operate Lafayette’s iconic Park Theater building and revitalize it into an accessible and inclusive, community-centered cinema, arts and culture hub with programming that includes critically acclaimed films, throwback favorites, and engaging non-film events.

Town Hall Theatre's Bay Area Celebration
Town Hall Theatre is pleased to be LIVE again, starting with a Bay Area Celebration. This special fundraising event on July 10 at 11am at the Moraga Commons will bring Bay Area artists together through song and spoken word. The summer stage will come to life with themes of Hope, Renewal, Equity, Resilience, Home, Inclusion, and CELEBRATION. We are excited to reconnect in-person with our community as we re-introduce Town Hall Theatre.
Accompanying the performances will be the Steve Carter Trio, an East Bay Groove Funk band with a modern style rooted in the rhythm-section innovations of Tower of Power, The Headhunters, and Sly and the Family Stone.
This event is a fundraiser for Town Hall Theatre Company as we plan our return to post-COVID in-person programming and offerings in the fall at our theatre in Lafayette.
Town Hall is looking for local businesses to sponsor the event. Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels starting at $500 and include benefits including social media mentions, placement on signage and mentions at the event.
