Richard Colangelo
Featured speaker at the Y's Men this Thursday, December 11, is Richard Colangelo, former Connecticut Chief State Attorney, who will discuss the high-profile murder case that will be back in the national headlines soon. Michelle Troconis, convicted in connection with the Jennifer Dulos disappearance and presumed murder, has filed a lengthy appeal arguing insufficient evidence and multiple trial errors.
Her appeal brief, submitted this month, seeks to have the convictions vacated or a new trial granted on grounds of constitutional rights violations, improper admission of evidence, and lack of direct proof linking her to the crime.
Attorney Colangelo, originally prosecuted this case and will provide an inside look at the original trial and the appeal to be considered. This talk will be an amazing opportunity to hear an insider perspective just as the story is resurfacing! Be sure to join us.
Y's Men Thursday morning meetings are in Hoskins Hall downstairs in the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East in Westport. Coffee, donut, and bagel social hour begins at 9:00 am, business meeting at 10:00 am, speaker at 10:30 am. Come early and meet your fellow members. Guests are always welcome.

Dr. Vanessa Hurta presents to the Y's Men at last Thursday's meeting.
Right in the midst of flu season, Y's Men welcomed Vanessa Hurta, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Director of Clinical Services of the Aspetuck Health District last Thursday who about "Respiratory Season, 2025 - 2026 and Public Health Updates."
Dr. Hurta's informative talk alerted Y's Men to the large number of illnesses we face in our daily lives, and the many state and local databases and resources which afford Connecticut residents the opportunity to track their own vaccination history, as well as keep up to date on food-borne and other illnesses, including whooping cough, that have been reported in the state.
She gave special attention to ticks: how they proliferate and steps to take to avoid or minimize being bitten. She took note of the female Lone Star tick - identified by a white spot on its torso - whose bite has been connected to Alpha Gal Syndrome, also known as Red Meat Allergy, in which afflicted individuals can suffer gastrointestinal consequences from consuming, or even inhaling meat products. And she gave us a succinct assessment of her least favorite flying insect: "Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals in the world."
Due to technical difficulties, there is no video of the meeting. However, links on the Y's Men FaceBook page or on the Y's Men website (under the Meeting Photos & Videos tab) will allow you to view the slides that accompanied Dr. Hurta's informative presentation.

| | Non-Fiction Book Club Details Two December Meetings | | |
Greg Steinmetz, author of "American Rascal," a biography of 19th century Robber Baron Jay Gould, will be the guest of the Y's Men Non-Fiction Book Club at its December 17 meeting at Lyndhurst, Gould's mansion in Tarrytown, NY.
Two meetings of the Y's Men Non-Fiction Book Club this month offer a unique format to the usual club meeting. Instead of simply discussing a book or topic, the Club invites the author of the book or someone closely associated with the book's topic.
For example, at its meeting this Wednesday, December 10, the book to be discussed is "Apollo 13" by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kruger. Meeting at 2:00 pm in room 109 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, the Club's special guest will be Y's Man George Kalan, a member of the NASA team that facilitated the successful return of Apollo.
George spoke to the Y's Men last month but will not be repeating his presentation. He will be there to answer any questions as well as comment about the book's content. He also will answer any questions about his presentation that couldn’t be asked due to time constraints.
The second meeting of the Club, on Wednesday, December 17 at 10:00 am, will be at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown, NY, the home of Jay Gould, the subject of "American Rascal," a biography of Gould by Greg Steinmetz. He will attend the meeting and join members for lunch at the Bridgeview Tavern in Tarrytown.
Rental of the meeting room at Lyndhurst costs $250.00. The more people who fill the room's 50 person capacity, the lower the cost per person. Meeting at Lyndhurst provides an opportunity to tour the mansion and have lunch at the Bridgeview Tavern.
If you are interested in attending, contact Y's Man Jeff Schwartz no later than Thursday, December 11, at 201-787-0654 or jandjschwartz@gmail.com. He will determine the final cost of the meeting or cancel it if too few sign up.

New Y's Men Activity: The Fraud Protection Club
We are all potential victims of hacking. The new Y's Men Fraud Protection Club will provide a comfortable setting for sharing experiences, concerns and ideas about protecting our identity and assets.
They also will discuss possible approaches to proactively securing those assets independent of government agencies and banks.
The Club will meet monthly. Anyone interested in joining should contact Jeff Schwartz at jandjschwartz@gmail.com
Separately, Capt. Jillian Cabana of the Westport Police Department's Detective Bureau, who previously has spoken to Y's Men, provided this chart from the Connecticut Intelligence Bureau as part of an article on how to prevent financial crimes against seniors.

Life Talk Meeting This Tuesday Will Focus on Gratitude
The next Y's Men Life Talk meeting will be this Tuesday, December 9 at 2:00 pm in room 109 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. In the spirit of the season, the topic will be Gratitude.
It’s that time of year, when we give thanks for so many things. Yes, for family and friends, but also for more. For the roofs over our heads. For the joy of hearing children laugh off in the distance. For the fellowship the Y's Men offer. For ... fill in the blank.
It's said that gratitude is framed by four "A's": One version includes Appreciation (valuing what is positive); Approval (praising efforts); Admiration (complementing qualities); and Attention (listening patiently). Can you describe an experience relating to one or more of these “A's"?
For more information about the Life Talk group, contact Y's Man Larry Ackerman at Larry@larryackerman.com.

| | Good Time Had By All at Annual Holiday Party | | |
Y's Men and guests gather at The Patterson Club for the annual Holiday Party December 3.
This past Wednesday evening was very special as nearly 150 Y's men and their wives/guests had a great time at the annual Holiday Party. Held at The Patterson Club in Fairfield, there was food, drink and music enjoyed by all.
Many members, especially those new to the Y's Men, had a chance to meet and get to know each other.
If you missed out this year, put the date in your calendar for next year when we announce it.
Many kudos went to Y's Men Past President Dewey Loselle for orchestrating this successful event and the tremendous effort he and his team put in to creating it.
Here is a link to the photos Y's Men Past President Bruce Borner took of the evening. Enjoy!
