Teaming up for Tomorrow 2022-25 campaign underway
It has been such a privilege this fall to introduce our new United Way of Southeastern Idaho fundraising campaign – Teaming up for Tomorrow 2022-25 – to the community.

We team up with community leaders to develop innovative, community-led solutions to fill in the gaps for families who aren’t making ends meet. And we raise funds to invest in the trusted nonprofits on the ground providing crucial services to those in need.

Our Teaming up for Tomorrow video, which highlights the past year and future plans to help local community members in need.
Idaho State University, United Way Team up for Education
Idaho State University and United Way of Southeastern Idaho teamed up for education in November to share early learning successes with preschool scholarships and Read Talk Play initiatives for future Bengals.

Randy Jensen, superintendent of American Falls School District, and Tennille Call, Interim Director of Education for United Way of Southeastern Idaho, shared about the successes early learning collaboratives have in improving kindergarten readiness scores in American Falls. For example, they surpassed their goals for preschool scholarships seats offered to American Falls children in need and from 2020-22, their kindergarten readiness scores skyrocketed above the state average.

Also during the event, ISU College of Business presented a check for one full preschool scholarship for a child in need in American Falls.

United Way finishes year one of Get Healthy Idaho initiative, starts year two
United Way of Southeastern Idaho started a four-year Get Healthy Idaho initiative in Bannock County in October 2021. The first year of the initiative, which is now complete, was dedicated to engaging the community, building partnerships, conducting a health needs assessment, and developing a community-driven action plan.

The team – in partnership with Idaho State University, the Pocatello Free Clinic, and the Department of Health and Welfare – began working on the Community Action Plan in May 2022 and is focused on promoting health equity and on addressing transportation barriers for underserved community members.

Join us in our community's Read Talk Play days!
Wear your Read Talk Play shirts to show your support for early learners! If you live in Pocatello-Chubbuck, we wear them on Thursdays, and the American Falls community wears theirs on Wednesdays.

The "Read Talk Play Everyday" initiative was designed to help parents understand the importance of their role in developing the cognitive, social and emotional skills their children will need to be successful in school and life.

The instructions are in the name -read, talk and play with your children every day!

Don't have a shirt yet? Contact Drema at drema@unitedwaysei.org or stop by the United Way office at 101 Main St. in Pocatello!

Women United teams up for families
Celebrating the 2nd Annual Women United Murder Mystery Dinner
Our 2nd Annual Women United Murder Mystery Dinner was a smashing success!

This year’s theme was Dining for Tomorrow at the Grand Gatsby, a themed murder mystery set in the height of prohibition with a mob war brewing in Historic Downtown Pocatello. We are so grateful to all of the Women United volunteers who helped with this event, the community volunteers who acted out roles in the murder mystery, all of the dessert auction donations from local bakeries and restaurants, all of our event sponsors and our wonderful community of supporters who attended this year.

All proceeds from this fundraiser go toward nonprofit programs that directly help Southeastern Idaho women and families in need.

Women United coat drive warms 38 local children
Women United members partnered with School District 25 and Pocatello Head Start to drop off new, warm coats to 38 local children in need.

Community partnerships like these can help fill a direct and desperate need for working families – in this case, making this winter warmer for these children.

Farewell, best wishes to staff member Felice Otero
We want to collectively express our gratitude and best wishes to our Director of Education Felice Otero, who left United Way in October to become the Associate Dean of Students at Idaho State University. In her time at United Way, Felice directed all cradle-to-career educational outcome efforts and raised major grant funding to support early education.

United Way of Southeastern Idaho staff member Tennille Call, who has previously worked as the American Falls Early Learning Coordinator, will serve as interim Director of Education.

Introducing our new office manager, Mikala Peterson
Meet Mikala!

Mikala Peterson, the newest addition to our United Way of Southeastern Idaho team, is originally from Eagle, Idaho, and has been in Pocatello since 2014. Mikala, who will be our new Office Manager, is passionate about family including her dog, helping and coordinating events, reading, music of all genres, and cooking.

Her "why" for joining us is to “be more locally involved, helping where and when I can, and being able to provide resources for people who might be new to the area or in a new, unexpected situation.”
Will you team up with us?
