The Missouri House and Senate continue to move pro-life legislation through the legislative process.
This week the Senate passed SB 1032, sponsored by Senator Mike Moon, that would authorize a taxpayer to claim a $2,400 exemption during the tax year in which a taxpayer gives birth to or adopts a child for which the taxpayer is entitled to a dependency exemption for federal tax purposes. We thank Senator Moon for his work on this bill. SB 1032 passed the Senate with bi-partisan support by a vote of 31 Yes and 3 Absent. SB 1032 has moved to the House for assignment to Committee.
The House has been busy with budget and we are watching budget bills in regards to Alternatives-to-Abortion and Show-Me-Healthy-Babies Funding.
The House also continues to hear pro-life bills.
HB 2426, sponsored by Rep. Ben Keathley, addressing protection for parental rights and consent on the issues of abortion and transgender surgeries and hormone treatment was heard this week in the House Children and Families Committee. Senator Rick Brattin is the Senate sponsor of the companion bill, SB 948.
HB 2688, sponsored by Rep. Darrin Chappell, to protect babies from abortion utilizing the due process clause of the 5th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution was referred to the House Administrative Rules Committee for a vote before it moves to the House floor for debate.
HB 3146, sponsored by John Simmons, addressing how ballot summary language is written has also been referred to the House Administrative Rules Committee for a vote before it moves to the House floor for debate.
There is a hearing scheduled next week for funding of the Newborn Safety Incubators in the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
And, the “Born Alive Abortion Survivor’s Protection Act”, HB 1667 & 2294 has been referred to the Senate Families, Seniors and Health Committee for a hearing. The hearing has not been scheduled as of this writing.
This is just a brief summary of the good work our pro-life majority is doing in this 2026 Legislative session. Please continue to pray for your legislators. Plan now to attend the Statewide Pro-life Action Day on Wednesday, March 11 to get more updates and SUPPORT OUR PRO-LIFE LEGISLATORS.
