Mrs. Sagat Says...

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Thanks so much to everyone who attended Cougar Carnival on Friday! It was a fantastic time, and you can see some pictures below. Thank you also to the Cougar Carnival Committee of Erica Scherbarth, Corey Radulovich, Erin Mejia, and Katie Meka, as well as all the fantastic volunteers who put this event on. It is such a great event benefiting our school and we are so thankful to those of you who played a role in its success!

A reminder that spring conferences will take place on Thursday, March 5 from 4-6pm, with some select teachers starting at 3:30pm. Spring conferences are optional and take place during a limited time frame. The conference sign-up genius will be released on Friday.

Just a mid-year reminder that we are a cell-phone free school. Students are expected to turn their cell phones into their homeroom teachers immediately in the morning, or to not bring them to school at all. Cell phones are returned each afternoon during pickup line. Thank you for adhering to this policy! You can read more about this policy on page 12 of our Family Handbook.

There is a lot of sickness going around school right now, and we are close to meeting the threshold of 25% of the student population out, which would cause us to have a mandatory closure the next day. Please, if your students are sick, try to keep them home if possible in order to prevent the continued spread of illness. Here at school we are emphasizing increased handwashing, wiping down of desks and materials, and coughing & sneezing by covering our mouths!

As I prepare for my maternity leave this week, I just want to remind you of the coverage plan for my maternity leave. The current plan is that I will be gone on leave from March 2nd through April 20; that said, this baby is hinting at coming early so I may go out on leave this week already. We will let families know if this happens. During the time that I am gone, Mrs. Schermetzler will be the lead administrator and will be in the building 5 days a week. Should you need anything, please contact her via email at aschermetzler@st-alphonsus.org. She can also help direct any questions that come in to our other internal stakeholders who are helping to facilitate my leave. Thank you for your continued prayers and support!

Lastly, Mrs. Schermetzler asked me to remind you that the Parish Auction officially "launched" this past weekend at all Masses. This means that registration is now open! You can find all the details below and I hope you will consider joining us at this great event.

Have a great week!

The next School Choice Application Period Opens Again on March 2

Think of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program as a new form of financial aid available to our current families. Enrollment into this program will re-open March 2nd, and we encourage those families who are interested to apply early. You can find more information on schoolchoicewi.org and see the income eligibility chart below to learn if you qualify.

Girls on the Run is Back for the 2026 Season!

Registration is open from February 16th to February 22nd at this link.

GOTRSEWI.ORG

The Girls on the Run program inspires girls in Grades 3 through 5 to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

This year's practice dates will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30pm. The season will run from March 23rd to June 1st.

Our coaches this year are Mrs. Domzil (5K teacher), Ms. Brennan (former 5th grade teacher), and Mrs. Knautz (3K teacher).

For questions, please reach out to Mrs. Domzil at kdomzil@st-alphonsus.org.

Track & Field Registration Now Open for Students in Grades 4-8!

Track & Field is one of the most inclusive and rewarding sports out there. Whether a student is new to athletics or already active in other sports, track provides a fun environment where everyone can participate, improve, and discover their strenghts. With events that range from sprints, distance running, and relays to long jump, shot put or high jump, there truly is something for every athlete.

Why join the track team?

  • Build confidence: Athletes set personal goals and see measurable growth throughout the season
  • Improve overall fitness: Track builds speed, strength, endurance and coordination; skills that benefit all sports
  • Stay active with friends: Practices are upbeat, energetic and a great social outlet after school
  • No experience required: Coaches teach all fundamentals and students can try multiple events to find what they enjoy

Please click on this link to sign up and do not hesitate to reach out to Athletic Director Nick Warrichaiet with any questions.
