Our 4th Save of Christmas

For our Fourth Save of Christmas, we remember Autumn, a 19-year-old who was surrendered to the shelter alongside her friends, Bootsie and Betsy. She was in poor shape—thin, suffering from severe diarrhea, and plagued by rotting teeth. Despite her condition, there was something special about her: a brightness in her eyes and a warmth to her presence made it impossible not to fall in love with her.

Upon arrival at JSCR, it was clear she needed immediate medical care. She received intensive fluid therapy due to severe dehydration, which impacted her kidneys. Thankfully, after treatment, she bounced back. However, due to her age and health, she wasn’t a good candidate for dental surgery.

Autumn spent six weeks living happily in a foster home. She chose the fluffiest bed in the house, frequented her personal all-you-can-eat buffet, and received all the pets and scratches her heart desired. Unfortunately, though, Autumn’s age caught up to her—she started sleeping near her water bowl and eating less. A visit to the vet revealed she was diabetic, anemic, and suffering from intense dental pain. With heavy hearts, we made the difficult decision to let her go peacefully.

Though she was sick, Autumn's warmth and sweet personality were not diminished. Even the vet remarked on Autumn’s lovely, bright spirit. She was truly a young soul in an aged body. While we miss her dearly, we honor her through the care for her "siblings," Betsy and Bootsie, who will be featured in the coming days of our 12 Saves of Christmas campaign.

This holiday season, we invite you to help make a difference in the lives of senior cats like Autumn. You can support their care by donating from our wishlist. Whether it’s litter, food, or supplies, every donation helps us give these special felines the care and comfort they need. Thank you for helping us honor Autumn's memory.
