Scan the QR code with your phone to donate or go here: https://onrealm.org/gcpcusa/-/form/give/now and choose "SOS Colombia" from the drop-down menu. | | GCPC's Finance Council and Session invite our community to consider sharing from your financial resources to support survivors of the devastating earthquakes in Columbia. We are partnering with SOS COLOMBIA, a partnership created with GCPC staff member, Jonathan Barros, and grassroots organizations in Columbia who are working directly with families and community organizations affected by the August 10, 2026 earthquake. The campaign will focus on Cali, Buenaventura and Chocó areas close to the center of the tragedy and home to Black and Afro-Colombian communities that faced deep poverty, informality and historical exclusion before the disaster. We know from our experience with Hurricane Helene and GCPC's relief work that grassroots organizations are often the ones that can get resources to those most impacted the most quickly and effectively. This opportunity to support earthquake survivors is live for the next three weeks. Thank you for sharing as you are able! | | | | #GCPCinthesanctuaryathomeandabroad | | |

Feeling Our Way:
Process Theology as a Decolonizing Co-conspirator | Fellowship Hall
Some of the hardest parts of the life of faith today are making sense of the traditional ways Christianity has explained things like Divine power, the existence of evil in the world, and why humans are the way we are. Process Theology invites us to shed many of the faulty assumptions of the Western philosophical tradition like materialism, superiority, and linear understandings of time for a cosmology and theology that coheres to the realities of the created world. This ten-week class is an opportunity for us to explore the novel perspectives that Process Theology offers us as we work to decolonize our minds, our bodies, and our faith.
Teacher: Marcia Mount Shoop

GCPC Campfire Collective | Thursday, October 8 | 5:00 PM | Garden Room
We all have stories to tell. Come share your real experiences and stories in the company of other folks of good will. Warm up, cultivate joy, go light or go deep. Imagine sitting around the campfire together – remembering, sharing, laughing, connecting, opening our hearts and minds, learning, and supporting.
Each gathering will open with a moment of centering and reflecting on a theme or a question. Then each person will be offered time to share an anecdote or a brief story that carries personal meaning to which the group may respond.
Come as often as you like. Everyone is welcome. Sharing our stories in a semi-structured framework, we will deepen friendships and build community. (And bring a whittling stick if you have one!)
John Huie, James Lamkin, Robin Gaiser and others will facilitate.

Introducing... A Complete Unknown

We are excited to announce that A Complete Unknown will be our architecture firm! We believe the team at A Complete Unknown - led by Suman Sorg - bring the depth of experience and expertise and shared values of justice and community that will shepherd us into this next chapter for Grace Covenant.
Campus Vision team members shared these reasons that they are excited about A Complete Unknown:
- Their spirituality and oneness with our land. The fact that they work as a team and Suman said she hires people for life.
- Suman and the team at A Complete Unknown bring deep experience and commitment to developing projects they undertake based on listening to the communities they’re serving.
- Our church and ACU share a deep alignment of mission and values, specifically dedicated to dismantling white supremacy through intentional, equitable design and community practice.

Two opportunities with Habitat!
| | |
Pride Day Build:
The work at Habitat for Humanity has special significance to marginalized communities, like LGBTQ+ folks, who are disproportionately vulnerable to poverty, housing insecurity, and homelessness.Having a Pride Build Day is a way to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, and the power members of that community have to build a safer, more welcoming, and more resilient future. It's an opportunity for us to stand in solidarity with each other, with our allies, and with all marginalized communities.
Pride Build Day 2026 | Saturday, October 10 | 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM
Sign up for Pride Build Day by going to the link below, logging in (or creating an account), then selecting the "Pride Build" shift on October 10. If you have any issues, you can also email volunteer@ashevillehabitat.org for assistance signing up.
https://aahh.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=56039&job_name=pride build
Please bring friends and loved ones for a day dedicated to creating an intentional, welcoming volunteer experience for LGBTQ+ folks.

2026 Faith Build House:
Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to help with the next Faith Build home. GCPC has consistently provided volunteers to Habitat for the Faith Build projects and we are asking for your help again. The work will begin in October and we are scheduling workers through the end of the year. Our typical build day for GCPC is Wednesday but I can sign folks up for any day they want. Each day can handle six volunteers and I would like to schedule October now.
For this first phase of the build we will be focused on framing and carpentry skills. Experience is not necessary. Please let me know if you want to volunteer. The more the merrier. Lee Carol Giduz is now scheduling volunteers for Wednesdays in October and November. If interested she can be texted at 828-493-3959 or emailed at lcgiduz@gmail.com.

Racial Equity Institute (REI) Two Day Phase 1 Training | Friday, November 6 & Saturday, November 7 | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM | Location: TBA
REI’s two-day workshop is designed to develop the capacity of participants to better understand racism in its institutional and structural forms. Moving away from a focus on personal bigotry and bias, this workshop presents a historical, cultural, and structural analysis of racism. With shared language and a clearer understanding of how institutions and systems are producing unjust and inequitable outcomes, participants should leave the training better equipped to begin to work for change.
Participants are asked to attend the entire training on Friday November 6th and Saturday November 7th 2026 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm both days. Participants are asked to provide their own lunch. In addition, some light snacks and coffee/tea will be available throughout the workshop.

Moving Forward in Fearful Times
The openings of these e-newsletters are often focused on inspiring people to be engaged in social justice. During these last ten years or so, the challenges may have seemed almost insurmountable. Yet, when we look back throughout history, we realize that there have always been challenges often resulting in confusion and fear.
In our community, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County has been a leader in providing opportunities for anyone in our community to address racial and other injustices. Jonathan McCoy, its vice-president, edits their monthly M.A.R.C.H. e-newsletter. This September edition, like each monthly edition, offers important information that is helpful to have. Each edition starts off with an introduction, and what Jonathan offers in this edition seems especially appropriate as we negotiate current challenges. With his permission, I have included an excerpt from the introduction of the latest edition. Jonathan’s words address what we can learn from the past to manage and cope with the fears and challenges of today. If you would like to subscribe to the M.A.R.C.H. e-newsletter, go here.
We live in a world where the only certainty is uncertainty. Political, social, and economic angst, anxieties, and anger press us in our professional, communal, and personal interactions creating a never-ending cycle of chaos and confusion. The temptation to give in to fear is overwhelming with disillusionment becoming the new normal and hopelessness the accepted reality.
We cannot let circumstances and people that invest in division, fear, and harm lead us to let go or be pulled away from the strength, hope, and joy we find from being in fellowship with others who also believe that all people deserve to be seen, heard, and treated with respect, dignity, equity, and justice.
In his sermon “Antidotes for Fear” Dr. King said, “So the problem of fear is one of the most serious problems of modern life...It drains one’s energy and depletes one’s resources. This is why Emerson said, “He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear.” (To read Jonathan’s full introduction, click here.)
