Heather's Blog: The Rewards of Gardening
The gardening season is really upon us, in all of its glory! We have been enjoying the blossoms of tulips, daffodils, crabapples and lilacs for the past month as we get into the heart of the season and look forward to the fruits, vegetables and blossoms that the warmer months will be certain to offer. These weeks of May have been stacked with non-stop activity at the garden center and in all of the gardens around the area that we care for. The pace is exhausting but the rewards of all of our efforts provide the proverbial carrot that continues to urge us onward. If gardening were a race, it would definitely be more of a marathon than a sprint, and as we ease into our strides after the tiring pace of the springtime, we know that the race is just getting started.

'Purple Flame'
This iris emerges in early spring with its blade-like foliage aflame in shocking purple. A native showstopper!

This is a gorgeous shrub that flowers all summer long, is a butterfly magnet, highly cold tolerant, and deer resistant too!

Garden Gnome' is one of those early spring bloomers that loves the cold, in fact, the colder the winter, the more buds it seems to throw up in spring!

Floral Bouquet CSA
Our Floral CSA just began but it is not too late! We offer memberships that allow you to pick up a bouquet every week during the season, every other week, once a month, or weekly (5 bouquets) during the month of either July or August. Mourges du Grès
Fleur d'Eglantine Rosé
Fleur d'Eglantine owes its name to the luminous color similar to the color of the wild roses that grow throughout the vineyard in the southern Rhone Valley. This delicate rosé has a beautiful floral aroma, (peonies perhaps?) with red berries, minerality and a touch of salinity on the palate. This was the crowd favorite at our tasting and our new favorite rosé!

Muscadet Sèvre et Main sur Lie
Clos de la Géraudrie 'Granite'
This tasty Muscadet was so popular as our March Wine Club offering that we decided to bring it into the shop. This is a very dry wine (often confused with "Moscato" which is a sweet wine). Fresh and vibrant, zippy and refreshing, you won't be able to put this wine down! Fyi, Muscadet is the classic pairing with fresh oysters if they are on your menu at all this summer!

GD Vajra Luigi Baudana Dragon Bianco Langhe
Hailing from the region of Piedmont, Italy, where Barolo is king, this is a refreshing blend of white grapes grown in northern Italy. There is an alpine quality to this fresh white wine, with notes of lemon and apricot on the palate and very floral on the nose. Another fantastic white for spring and summer!

Subscribe to our Wine Club!
Our new wine club subscription at East Branch Organics has really taken off! Each month we curate an interesting wine duo: a white wine and a red wine, typically from the same wine growing region. This has been a fun and tasty way for people to try new wines from grapes or regions they might not be familiar with. Members are charged $36 on the first of every month, and the wines--along with a letter with information about the wines--are ready for pick up by the first Friday of each month.
