Wool is naturally bacteriostatic. This means that its incredible absorbency and wicking properties create an environment where it is very hard for bacteria to form because of the lack of moisture. Cotton, a cellulose fiber, has good absorbency but traps the moisture whereas wool, a protein fiber, absorbs and wicks it away leaving you warm and dry.
