As a reminder to all residents, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times when in common areas; including parks, greenbelts, and on trails.
California law and local leash ordinances require that dogs be under the control of their owner whenever they are in public areas. These regulations prohibit dogs from running at large and require that they be restrained by a leash held by a responsible person. These laws are intended to protect the safety of residents, visitors, pets, and wildlife. Please see the excerpt below, with a link to Orange County Animal Control's web page with a summary of OC pet laws.
Recently, the Association has received reports of several dog-related incidents within the community. While many dogs are friendly and well-trained, even well-behaved pets can become unpredictable in unfamiliar situations. Keeping dogs leashed is the best way to prevent injuries and ensure that everyone can safely enjoy our parks and trails.
Residents who observe dogs off-leash, aggressive behavior, or potential safety concerns are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department or Orange County Animal Control so the matter can be addressed promptly by the appropriate authority.
If you observe an off-leash dog or a concerning situation:
- For immediate and severe safety concerns or aggressive behavior: Call 911
-
For non-emergency reporting of dangerous off-leash dogs: Contact the Sheriff’s Department Non-Emergency Line at (949) 770-6011 or
- Orange County Animal Control at (714) 935-6848, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Daily or (714) 259-1122, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. Nightly
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our community safe and enjoyable for all residents and their pets.
OCCO 4-1-45 Restraint of dogs states in part: “No person owning or having charge, care, custody, or control of any dog shall cause or permit, either willfully or through failure to exercise due care or control, any such dog to be upon any public property unless such dog be restrained by a substantial chain, or leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length, and is under the charge of a person competent to exercise care, custody, and control over such dog”. You must keep your dog leashed anytime your dog is off your property. Your dog must be on a leash no longer then six (6) feet in length and in the care of a competent adult. There are designated ‘dog parks’ throughout Orange County that lawfully allow the absence of a leash.
