"The Poet's Eye"

~ MEMORIZE A POEM ~

Poets contemplate reality. They discover the “spiritual in the ordinary”
 and reveal to us the underlying unity that surrounds us.

According to Shakespeare (Midsummer Night’s Dream)....

“The poet's eye, in a fine frenzy rolling,
Doth glance from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven;
And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet's pen
Turns them to shapes, and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.”

We’ve gathered some poems for you below - all timely, one humorous!

Please write to us at info@angelicoproject.org and let us know what you have
 enjoyed and done with the ‘challenges’ in the last few weeks!
Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
……..(whose) delight is in the law of the Lord,
  and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
  planted by streams of water,
that yields its fruit in its season,
  and its leaf does not wither.
Having Misidentified a Wildflower
by Richard Wilbur

A thrush, because I’d been wrong,
Burst rightly into song
In a world not vague, not lonely,
Not governed by me only.
Spring
by Gerard Manley Hopkins

Nothing is so beautiful as spring—
 When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;

Pied Beauty
by Gerard Manley Hopkins

Glory be to God for dappled things—
  For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;

Strictly Germ-Proof
by Arthur Guiterman

The Antiseptic Baby and the Prophylactic Pup
Were playing in the garden when the Bunny gamboled up;
They looked upon the Creature with a loathing undisguised;—
It wasn't Disinfected and it wasn't Sterilized.

Tables Turned
  by William Wordsworth

Up! up! my Friend, and quit your books;
Or surely you'll grow double:
Up! up! my Friend, and clear your looks;
Why all this toil and trouble?
