Happy Sunday and Happy Teacher Appreciation Week,
Thank you for your daily efforts in your schools, your contributions to our profession, and your unwavering commitment to our students. Take a moment this week to reflect on how much you are appreciated—and be sure to do something to celebrate you.
As summer approaches, we look forward to fewer early mornings, no paper grading, and a break from daily check-ins. But our union work continues! I’d love to invite you to join us at one (or more!) of the upcoming events over the next six weeks.
The first is Lobby Day which is being held on Tuesday, May 20th in Columbus. We’ll kick off with a briefing at OEA Headquarters, where breakfast and helpful resources will be provided. Then we’ll head to the Statehouse for meetings with legislators and possibly attend legislative committee hearings. Afterward, OEA will host a legislative reception. Several ECOEA members will be attending and would love to have you with us. If feeling hesitant, you are welcome to join our group lobbying. If so, please register at Lobby Day Registration and contact the office to let us know you are coming so details can be arranged.
The second is ECOEA’s Summer Leadership which is being held on Wednesday, June 18th. Held at First Christian Church, this event is designed for local leaders—Presidents, Treasurers, and others in leadership roles. Sessions will focus on OEA Local Treasurers’ Training, election guidance, a panel discussion with OEA officers, and a “True Colors” workshop. We are excited for a day full of learning opportunities and chances for you to grow as a leadership team. Please register at Summer Leadership - ECOEA and we will see you there!
The third opportunity is OEA’s Summer Leadership on Monday, June 23rd through Wednesday, June 25th in Columbus. There is a variety of sessions to learn about advocacy, leadership and pertinent topics to our profession today. ECOEA is offering scholarships to attend which will cover all conference expenses when rooming with someone. If interested, please use this link to fill out. I would love to see you down in Columbus for this powerful learning experience!
The school year may be wrapping up, but I wish you a strong and joyful finish. I hope to see you this summer at one of our events or out in the community.
In solidarity,
Juliann Doerschuk
