The work we do comes down to one goal: To provide our community with exceptional water, wastewater, recycled water and park and recreation services. Take a look back at some of the programs and projects that helped us live up to our mission in Fiscal Year 2024.

Emergency Preparedness

September is National Emergency Preparedness Month. Padre Dam stays ready for potential emergencies every month of the year, here are a few examples:

  • High-powered generators are installed at our critical facilities so we can continue moving water during power outages.
  • Our valve replacement and exercise program keep valves in good shape so emergency leaks can be isolated and turned off quickly.
  • We own and maintain our community's fire hydrants, keeping them ready-to-go at a moment's notice.

These steps along with countless others keep the District prepared for emergency situations. Find out about what you can do to be prepared for emergencies at www.ready.gov.

Reservoir Refurbishments

The East County Square Reservoir and Jerry Johnson Reservoir recently underwent refurbishments. The District routinely maintains and upgrades tanks as they age to extend their lifespan.

Both reservoirs underwent minor repairs, were recoated and received new cathodic protection systems, which help to slow rust. In addition, the Jerry Johnson Tank received a new aluminum roof. The Jerry Johnson Reservoir has been serving the Crest community since 1972. The East County Square Reservoir, located near Lakeview, was constructed in 2007. With these refurbishments, both tanks can now get back to storing and providing water for their communities.

Reverse Osmosis Filters Arrive at East County Advanced Water Purification Site

The first of many reverse osmosis filters have arrived on-site for the East County Advanced Water Purification Program. The filters make up one of the four treatment steps that will be used to purify recycled water.

Reverse osmosis uses pressure to force water molecules through sheets with microscopic holes, allowing only clean water to pass through.

The Program will provide up to 30% of East County San Diego's drinking water when it goes online in 2026. To find out more about the Program, visit www.eastcountyawp.com.
