CITY MANAGER'S MESSAGE

Coffee, Conversation, and Community

This morning, we had the pleasure of hosting our very first Coffee with the Council at Cutter's Point Coffee on Lacey Blvd. I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who took time out of their morning to join us. It was wonderful to connect with community members in a casual setting, hear your questions and ideas, and have meaningful conversations about the future of Lacey.

I truly appreciate Councilmembers Greenstein and Turner for sharing their time, perspectives, and commitment to engaging directly with our residents. Events like these are successful because of leaders who value open dialogue and community connection.

Our community motto, "It's the People," was on full display this morning. The conversations, thoughtful questions, and genuine interest in our city reminded us that Lacey's greatest strength has always been the people who call it home.

As with any first-time event, we learned a few things about what worked well and where we can make improvements. Your feedback and participation will help us make future Coffee with the Council gatherings even better.

Building relationships with our community is one of our highest priorities, and opportunities like this allow us to have conversations outside of the Council Chambers. We appreciate everyone who joined us for this inaugural event and look forward to seeing even more familiar and new faces at our next Coffee with the Council!

Before You Go: Parking Tips

Through a partnership with Saint Martin's University (SMU), you can use the field parking lot (next to the SMU baseball field) as an additional off-site parking option. Please do not park in private lots (ex: Lacey Downs Plaza, which contains the Lacey Post Office) unless you're patronizing that business. Parking in any privately owned lots puts your vehicle at risk of being towed.

We encourage attendees to carpool, walk, bike, or take the bus (it's free!) whenever possible.

Washington 2025 Flood Victims Receive FEMA Assistance

Washington floods severely impacted many communities in 2025. In response, FEMA established various opportunities for residents, business owners, and public agencies to apply for funding assistance for flood damage.

By the numbers:

  • In total, over 2,700 Washington homeowners and renters applied for $14.9 million in FEMA assistance.
  • Through the Public Assistance program, 147 applicants will receive reimbursement for emergency work and repairs of public facilities.
  • FEMA operated 22 Disaster Assistance Centers in Chelan, King, Lewis, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties.
  • The Small Business Administration approved $17 million in loans.

Recovery is a long-term process, and the resilience demonstrated by Washington communities throughout this disaster has been extraordinary. Thank you to our partners, local leaders, volunteers, and survivors for working together to rebuild stronger and move forward.
