Join us this Thursday, 13 August 2026, at 16:00 East Africa Time for our LabCoP ECHO Session on Near Point-of-Care TB Diagnostics: From Demand Forecast to Diagnostic System Design - Evidence from 10 Countries.
In March 2026, WHO released its recommendation on near point-of-care Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (nPOC NAATs). With 13 countries already adopting nPOC through the Global Fund and CIFF SI mechanism, the conversation has shifted from technology validation to implementation at scale. To support this transition, CHAI conducted a multi-country demand forecasting exercise across 10 high-burden TB markets — including 7 in Africa. The analysis combined quantitative modelling with approximately 100 stakeholder interviews to project nPOC adoption through 2030.
The findings are clear: demand for nPOC is not constrained by epidemiological need but by system realities—financing, site readiness, and how countries design their diagnostic networks. Where devices are placed, how sites are activated, and whether efficiency gains are reinvested will determine whether nPOC expands access or simply substitutes existing testing capacity.
In this session, we will:
- Present the first multi-country demand forecast for nPOC TB diagnostics, including projected uptake trajectories across different country archetypes and the key drivers of variation
- Share early implementation evidence on how device placement, site activation, and system design influence real-world impact
- Discuss practical implications for scale-up, including how countries can structure diagnostic network transitions, procurement, and financing to maximize public health
- Share emerging evidence from early nPOC implementation on how placement, site activation, and system design influence real-world impact
- Discuss practical implications for planning and scale up - specifically how countries can structure diagnostic network transitions, procurement, and financing to maximize the public health return from nPOC investment
