Donate to the Center for

New Directions Baby Shower

This month, the Center for New Directions is requesting donations for diapers, wipes, cute baby clothes and any other baby items!


This baby shower is in honor of Mother’s Day, and will go from now until May 14.


Please drop off donations to the Cardinal Learning Commons in Lee-Kildow Hall. You can leave them with Kathy at the front desk, or drop them off directly at Lee-Kildow Hall room 132-C. Donations will be given directly to those in need!

Achievement Awards


It’s that time of the year to recognize the amazing work of your peers and consider nominations for the Rising Star Award, Full-time Staff Excellence Award and Part-time Staff Excellence Award.


Nominations are now open and close at the end of the business day on Friday, April 14.


Rising Star Award

This award is given to an outstanding full-time staff member who has worked at least six months, but no more than three years, in their current office/department.


Employee must not have received this award or another of the Staff Appreciation Awards in the past three years.


Staff Excellence Award

This award is given to two full-time, benefit-eligible staff members who have consistently excelled in their position; have made outstanding contributions in the area of service and dedication to NIC; have promoted teamwork and collaboration across campus; have worked quietly behind the scenes to improve their division or department; and who have consistently done so with a positive and forward-thinking attitude.


Employee must have been employed by NIC for at least three years and must not have received a Staff Appreciation Award in the past three years.


Part-Time Staff Excellence Award

This award is given to an outstanding part time, non-benefit eligible, non-student staff member who has consistently excelled in their position; has made outstanding contributions in the area of service and dedication to NIC; has worked quietly behind the scenes to improve their division or department; and who has consistently done so with a positive and forward-thinking attitude.


Employee must have been employed by NIC for at least one year in a part-time position and must not have received a Staff Appreciation Award in the past three years.

FY23 Service Awards announced


North Idaho College presents service awards to eligible employees each year at the annual commencement breakfast. Awards are presented for full-time, part-time and adjunct service. 


The list of awards for 2023 is available for review. The guidelines for these awards can be found here.


Starting in FY23, part-time and adjunct service can be applied toward a full-time service award at the employee's request. The complexity of consolidating all service time requires an evaluation of records and manual calculation.

Volunteers needed for NIC Day of Service


NIC Day of Service is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Professional Development Funds available; deadlines approaching

 

NIC Human Resources has Professional Development (PD) funds remaining for the current fiscal year. The deadline for FY24 Cycle 1 (activities that occur between July 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2023) is Friday, April 28.

 

Remaining funds are available for Staff PDP, Staff Group PDP, Faculty PDP and Group PD. For more information about each type of PD funding, click here.

 

For priority consideration on Group PD funds, applications must be submitted to humanresources@nic.edu by Friday, April 14.

Seeking Faculty Advisors for New Student Advising in June, July and August 2023


Are you interested in helping increase enrollment and making a positive difference in the lives of students this summer? 


NIC is excited to bring back on-campus new student programming during the summer months to welcome our incoming students and support them in advising and registration for their very first semester of college! In addition, we will continue to offer individual new student advising appointments in person and via Zoom or phone. 


Advising Services is seeking faculty advisors for group advising sessions and individual advising during the timeframe of June 5 to Aug. 18. 


Faculty participants receive a stipend for new student advising during the summer months, subject to Division Chair approval and credit load eligibility. 

Faculty advisors can commit to the entire summer’s advising efforts or selected weeks based on availability. 


A faculty advisor training is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 21.


Faculty advisors are instrumental in creating a sense of belonging for new students.

The Summer 2023 Catalog is here!


The issue can be viewed on the NIC Workforce Training Center website at nic.edu/wtc.


New in this catalog are classes that include Succession Planning, Brain Health, Difficult Conversations Workshop, Full Moon Sailing and Introduction to Fly-Casting. The catalog also identifies courses that are eligible for funding through the Idaho Launch program.

2022-23 Work-Study Supervisor Training


Hire a work-study student!


Does your department need extra help? Do you have an opportunity that will give a student valuable educational experience that can be added to their resume and put money in their pocket to help with additional expenses?


Are you a faculty member that needs to hire a teacher’s assistant?


All staff and faculty can be eligible to hire a work-study student in their office or department once the annual supervisor training has been completed.


For the 2022-2023 academic year, there are many changes and updates to the program. Training is required to learn about the program, re-up your knowledge and become authorized to hire.

Employee Climb group back for spring


OP staff had a great time with those who participated in our Employee Climb group fitness program last fall, and will be continuing this program throughout the spring!

SWRC climbing wall


This climbing hour will be for employees only. Whether you are a seasoned crag-rat or trying the sport for the first time, this program is intended to be a fun and supportive atmosphere for employees to get the wall all to themselves. 


You will even get 35 points for the Vitality Wellness Program for participating!

FY2023 Procurement and purchasing close



The end of the fiscal year 2023 is approaching and it is once again time to start planning for any remaining purchasing and expenditure activities.

 

These deadlines have been established according to North Idaho College’s internal processing requirements and to facilitate a timely year-end close and preparation of annual financial reports.

 

Planning should be made now to anticipate needs between May 25 and June 30 to ensure procurement of those needs occurs before the May 24 procurement close deadline
