Staff Appreciation Week

🎩✨ A Seuss-tastic Celebration is coming to Hermosa Schools! ✨🎩

Join us in spoiling our staff from May 4th-8th for Staff Appreciation Week! We’re planning a breakfast, Seuss-style of course. "Green Eggs and Ham" will be the star of the force (though regular eggs are welcome too!). Stay tuned for Sign Up Links coming next week to contribute breakfast foods, snacks and refreshments for the week.

Get ready for giggles, for kindness, for cheer— let’s celebrate staff in true Who-ville style this year! 🎉

Parking Lot Day Chair Wanted

The Memorial Day Parking Lot Fundraiser which provides parking for Fiesta Hermosa attendees is one of HVPTO’s largest fundraisers, generating more than $12,000 over the holiday weekend. While volunteer sign‑ups for 2‑hour shifts will go out next week, we are currently looking for a Day Chair to oversee Sunday, May 24th.

Day Chair responsibilities include:

  • Setting up signage at the start of the day
  • Ensuring smooth transitions between volunteer shifts
  • Counting the day’s cash at closing
  • Taking down and storing signage

Day Chairs do not need to stay for the volunteer shifts themselves—parking is fully managed by shift volunteers. It’s a simple role, no parking‑lot experience required! If you’re interested or want more details, please contact Volunteers@hvpto.com.

Seeking Halloween Carnival Chair

Are you a planner, organized, and want to volunteer in a way that will make a big impact? Then, we need you!

We are currently seeking a Chair for our beloved annual Halloween Carnival! No experience necessary. We'll guide you through it and provide the resources to support you supporting our schools! If interested, please email us at volunteers@hvpto.com to learn more!

Middle School Class Fund

HBCSD and HVPTO will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week from May 4th-8th! Since Middle School doesn't have Room Parents, HVPTO collects donations to our Middle School Class Fund to help purchase gifts for our Middle School staff during Staff Appreciation Week. Donations can be made at the HVPTO.com Store. Not sure if you donated already? Email store@hvpto.com to check.

Empty Bowls at HVS

Join us for the 4th Annual Hermosa Valley Empty Bowls event this Thursday, April 16th from 5:30pm-7:00pm in the Hermosa Valley MPR. A simple meal of soup and bread will be served in handmade ceramic bowls created by the HVS Art 8 class. The Hermosa Valley Band will provide entertainment while you enjoy soup provided by local businesses. The suggested donation is $20 per person and includes one handmade ceramic bowl (while supplies last) to serve as a reminder that you made a difference by supporting the fight against hunger in our community. All proceeds will go to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Donations can be PRE-PAID or you can pay by check or cash at the door. We can't wait to see you there!

HBEF + HVPTO Joint Meeting

All are invited to attend the HBEF + HVPTO Joint Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 21st from 7:30-9:00 PM in the Hermosa Valley Multi-purpose Room (MPR).

Come learn how the two organizations work together with the HBCSD to enrich the learning environment for all HVS students. Meeting documents will be available to view the day of the meeting.

GRADES OF GREEN

Plastic Film Drive at HVS

Do you have plastic takeout bags or Amazon white and blue mailers that you thought were recyclable but actually aren't? Grades of Green invites you to recycle those items with Ridwell!

Collection bins will be onsite at all campuses throughout the week of April 20th to 24th, coinciding with Earth Week. We are collecting CLEAN and DRY plastic film and bags.

Examples include plastic shopping bags, bread bags, cereal bags, air pillows, shipping envelopes, and Ziploc bags (essentially any plastic film you can poke your finger through).

Ridwell is a recycling company that specializes in materials not typically collected curbside. You can find more information about this drive here.

We are also looking for a volunteer at each campus to help monitor and collect the school's bin during the drive. Please consider helping out (email below)!

Have questions, ideas, or want to join our Green Team? Please email Grades of Green Chair, Julia Lau, at gradesofgreenhb@gmail.com.
