Exposing the Big ~BXXXXXiful~ UGLY Bill: Threats to US Economy & Democracy

Presenter Ed Spire: NWSOFA’s Restore Our Democracy Co-Lead

_Ed Spire invites you to a critical presentation that will expose the profound dangers the “Big ~BXXXXiful~~ UGLY Bill” poses to both our economy and our democracy._

By dissecting the bill’s agenda, Ed will demonstrate how this sweeping legislation—marketed as a boon for working Americans—threatens to accelerate wealth inequality, undermine essential safety net programs, and erode the foundational principles of fair governance.

Overwhelmingly benefiting corporations and the ultra-wealthy

The bill’s central feature is trillions of dollars in tax cuts, overwhelmingly benefiting corporations and the ultra-wealthy, while slashing funding for healthcare, food assistance, and renewable energy. If enacted, the legislation would result in the largest transfer of wealth from working and middle-class families to the richest Americans in U.S. history, with households earning less than $51,000 losing an average of $700 per year, and the top 0.1% gaining nearly $400,000.

Gutting Medicaid and SNAP

These cuts are paid for by gutting Medicaid and SNAP, threatening healthcare coverage for over 8 million people and taking food assistance away from millions of children and families. Farmers, too, would be hit hard, with SNAP cuts risking $30 billion in lost income and 400,000 jobs.

Beyond the economic fallout, the bill’s provisions also threaten democratic norms by consolidating power among the wealthiest interests and stripping away programs that support broad participation in society. The rollback of clean energy incentives and the expansion of fossil fuel subsidies further entrench corporate influence over public policy, while new immigration fees and border measures risk marginalizing vulnerable communities. The bill’s rushed passage through the House, with no Democratic support and deep internal divisions, underscores the lack of broad democratic consensus.

_Join Ed Spire to learn what’s at stake, how these changes could reshape our nation for generations, and what you can do to help stop this unprecedented attack on economic fairness and democratic values._

Now is the time to raise your voice, contact your senators, and mobilize your community to demand a better, more just future for all.

Let’s build a movement to flip the midterms and make Trump a lame duck!

As President Trump celebrates his 79th birthday with a military parade in D.C., we’ll be raising our voices for democracy, equity, and freedom, countering the spectacle with a people-powered chorus of hope and resistance.

This is our call to all—woke, unwoke, and everyone in between—to reclaim the flag’s meaning from the grip of alt-right media and neo-terrorism.

Whether you’re a seasoned songwriter or just finding your voice, this session will empower you to write lyrics and create Suno songs that challenge autocracy and celebrate the true patriotic ideals of the US flag.

Your Voice Matters—Share Your Song!

Let’s let equity ring and freedom sing—No Kings, just people united for justice!

June 12 Federal Chaos/Local Impact Town Hall

Gutting of our federal government has a deep, wide-ranging impact on our local community

What is the local impact of Trump's massive Federal chaos on our community?

What is the local impact of Trump's massive Federal chaos on our community? In this Town Hall, we'll hear from several local residents who are former federal employees, and elected officials from Cook County and Illinois. We'll hear how the gutting of our federal government has a deep, wide-ranging impact on our local community and how it is hurting friends and neighbors. And we'll talk about What We Can Do About It.

Hear from local, former federal workers

See you at Palatine Library in the big meeting room. We'll hear from local, former federal workers from the Commerce Department, the Securities Exchange Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, and NASA. Elected officials include Illinois Senate Majority Leader Cristina Castro, State Rep. Nabeela Syed, 51st District., State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, 54th District; Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton, 14th District, Commissioner Kevin Morrison, 15th District, and Commissioner Maggie Trevor, 9th District. U.S. Senator Richard Durbin's Regional Director, Yasmeen Bankole, will be on hand to address federal issues.

This event is co-sponsored by NWSOFA-Indivisible

From Indivisible / Urgent Actions needed:

- House Republicans just voted for a tax bill that does real harm to working Americans—slashing Medicaid, food assistance, and threatening Medicare to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires. It’s a cruel, upside-down set of priorities that puts the ultra-wealthy first and working families last.

Indivisible is organizing phonebanks every Wednesday and Thursday in June.

- But this fight isn’t over yet. The Senate is up next and we have a plan to block this bill.

- We're helping voters in key states call their senators and demand they reject this dangerous bill. We’ve used this tactic before—and it works. Back in 2017, grassroots pressure like this helped stop Republicans from dismantling the ACA.

- If we turn up the heat again, we can block this bill in the Senate—or force changes that send it back to the House, where it faces an even tougher path.

- Let’s remind Congress who they work for. Make some calls .. Starts June 4 /5th..
