RE-FORMING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE EARTH, WITH GOD, & WITH EACH OTHER
Peace to you,

Summer is in full swing at Holden Village. Hundreds of guests travel up and down the mountain each week, and we are always preparing this beloved Village for those who are yet to come.

Each day, summer teaching faculty challenge us in invigorating conversation and equip us with the understanding to care for each other and our earth both inside and outside of the Village. Children play and create art together at Narnia, ice cream is enjoyed on sunny afternoons at the Snack Bar, and folks of all ages learn to weave in the Art Studios. Friends both new and old support one another at Prayer Around the Cross and spend evenings bowling together in the Pool Hall.

We hope you enjoy these stories and images from the past month at Holden!

OPERATIONS
CLEAN AIR IS DIRTY WORK
For the past few months our Utilities & Waterworks Lead, 20 year old August Kraemer, has been hard at work revising one of Holden's primary heating systems. Lovingly called “Dante,” the boiler which heats six chalets is well known by staff who dawn heat-proof gloves and feed the flames 24 hours a day during the winter months. Though the original Dante remains, the system will soon be supplemented by an Econoburn boiler that will burn with twice the efficiency and produce significantly less air pollution. In addition to burning less fuel, Kraemer says that the new system will provide radiant heat to the Holden School and continue to keep chalets warm and toasty.
ARTS
CO-CREATING ART FOR THE LITURGICAL SPACE
Last month, Kansas city artist and summer teaching faculty member, Jannele Mastin, led a collaborative painting session, From Fear to Courage: A Visual Expression. The installation now on display in the Village Center features dozens of painted circular pieces. Each one is a unique reflection on Holden’s summer 2018 conversation, Fear Not. LEARN MORE

VILLAGE LIFE
A UNIQUELY HOLDEN 4TH OF JULY
Holden celebrated the 4th of July with ice cream from the Snack Bar, a parade full of Holden hilarity, lawn games, face painting, trivia on the Ark, and "fireworks" (bubble wrap popping and a video of fireworks) in the Village Center! SEE MORE
VILLAGE UPDATES
STAY COOL, HOLDEN SCOOPS
The Snack Bar is receiving an update! With the help of volunteer carpenters, a new dipping cabinet is being installed in the Snack Bar to allow for easier Holden scoops at the perfect temperature and more ice cream storage! Visit the Snack Bar to check out the updated setup.
A VILLAGE RENEWED
SUPPORT HOLDEN THROUGH THE SEASONS
This summer, Holden Village has again been filled with the spirit that has carried this place apart for decades. Music, laughter, and community filled the Village, as well as thought-provoking conversations led by renowned teaching faculty from around the world. Hundreds of guests came to experience the rhythms of the Village each week. It is our hope that Holden Village may continue as a place for civil conversation, for learning to listen deeply to one another, and for finding hope in a fearful world. Registration fees do not fully cover the cost of maintaining a Village community of learning, worship, hospitality, and celebration. Your gift will set us on firm financial footing for next summer’s programming and beyond and help ensure that our rhythms remain for generations to come!
BLESSING
"On the day when the weight deadens on your shoulders and you stumble, may the clay dance to balance you. And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window and the ghost of loss gets into you, may a flock of colours, indigo, red, green and azure blue, come to awaken in you a meadow of delight…"
