Greetings!

I hope you will consider, if the time is right for you, to attend the NTMA Fall Conference and Emerging Leaders events. These are two terrific events that NTMA has held many times over the years. Personally, in-person meetings like these are one of the biggest benefits of being a member. I’ve attended several National Conferences and they never disappoint.

Check out the links below for more information and to register. I will see you in October!

Best,

Casey Jones

State of Texas: Lawmakers seek solutions for semiconductor shortages to improve national security

Posted on July 27, 2021

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — America needs to think differently when it comes to boosting manufacturing of semiconductor chips, according to one Texas senator.
These chips are found in appliances, phones, cars and other technology, including some of the U.S.’ most advanced weapons systems at the Pentagon. The issue is that these chips are mainly produced overseas, in nations such as China, and the supply chain can be easily disrupted.

In response to this threat, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is pushing for a House passage of the CHIPS for America Act, which would incentivize U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, research and development and supply chain security. The incentivization would come through a major refundable tax credit which would cover up to 40% of the manufacturer’s upfront cost. . . READ MORE

The Big Picture Report on U.S. Manufacturing Conditions
(July 2021)

Posted by IndustryNet on Monday, July 19, 2021

As demand continues to soar, U.S. manufacturers are plowing through enormous challenges to get their products to market. So what are the latest trends and how optimistic are manufacturers about future business conditions? Today, we’re delivering essential summaries from the month’s most critical manufacturing reports, exploring executive optimism, output, labor, regional trends and a special survey on supply disruptions.

Executive Summary

  • The semiconductor shortage in the auto industry continued to impact labor and output readings in June.
  • The sector saw little change in manufacturing output in June as severe losses in motor vehicle production erased gains in metals, aerospace, and non-durables.
  • Manufacturing is still plagued by a worker shortage, with job openings at a record high.
  • Manufacturing activity reached its 13th straight month of expansion. Executive optimism, though more muted than last month, remains exceptionally high. Prices hit a record high.
  • Companies note struggles with meeting demand, high prices, supply shortages and lack of skilled workers.
  • Regional surveys point to expanded manufacturing activity across the board.
