UAC Members Attend National Association of Counties Legislative Conference

Forty-two members of the Utah Association of Counties representing 18 counties, recently attended the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. The annual conference brings together county officials from across the nation to discuss federal policies that impact local governments and to strengthen relationships with federal leaders and partner organizations.

UAC members participated in a variety of policy sessions and heard from federal representatives addressing key issues such as funding, infrastructure, and the evolving partnership between federal and local governments. The conference provides counties an important opportunity to stay informed on federal priorities while advocating for policies that support county governments and the communities they serve. It also offers a valuable chance to connect with county officials from other states, share experiences, and exchange ideas on how counties across the country are addressing similar challenges.

A highlight of the conference was the Public Lands Steering Committee meeting. The committee, chaired by Garfield County Commissioner Jerry Taylor, included remarks from Congresswoman Celeste Maloy. She discussed current public lands issues being considered in Congress and emphasized the importance of ensuring that local governments have a voice in policies that affect the counties where much of the nation’s public land is located.

UAC members also gathered for a Utah Caucus meeting. All six members of Utah’s federal delegation addressed the group, providing updates on issues being discussed in Washington and taking time to hear directly from UAC members about the priorities and challenges facing Utah counties.

Participation in the NACo Legislative Conference continues to provide valuable opportunities for UAC members to engage in federal policy discussions, strengthen relationships with national partners, and ensure that the perspectives of Utah’s counties are represented in Washington, D.C.
