Historical Tidbit:
Nor'easter
Nor'easter, a phrase that sends shivers down the spine of even the most hardiest of New Englanders. In December 1620, the Pilgrims quickly found out the nature of our winters, though many noted the first winter was milder than most to come.
|
A Nor'easter gets its name from strong continuous northeastern winds blowing in from the ocean. The storm begins with a strong low-pressure area either forming in the Gulf of Mexico or on our East Coast. If the low tracks westerly the precipitation will mostly be rain. If the low moves easterly slightly off the coast and there's enough moisture and cold air, it's time to bundle up and batten down because we are in for heavy snow, over-sized waves and wind gusts that can exceed hurricane force. We have memories of storms such as the February "Blizzard of 78" and the Thanksgiving "Perfect Storm" of 1991. New Englanders are a hearty bunch!

BSU Theater Performs an Apocalyptic, Apoplectic, Absurdist Comedy
in The Bald Soprano
Wednesday, Feb 26th at 8 pm; Friday, Feb 28th at 8 pm; and Saturday, Feb 29
th
at 2 pm
BSU campus, Rondileau Campus Center Auditorium
19 Park Ave.
As part of its annual Student Repertory Theatre Festival, Bridgewater State University’s Department of Theater presents
The Bald Soprano
, a hilarious absurdist comedy examining what happens when words, numbers, and even basic truths fail us.
A masterpiece of absurdist theater,
The Bald Soprano,
centers on the Smiths, a middle-class couple living in a word where time has spun wildly out of control, words are empty, and personal identity has lost meaning. They invite over their cheery neighbors for a fun visit, but both couples spending the evening in meaningless banter, storytelling, and overall nonsense. As reality crumbles around them, this “tragedy of language” reaches a fever pitch of comedy and nonsense! Inspired by the phrases the author encountered while learning English, this unique, absurd comedy is a satire for all audiences.
The incredibly talented cast of
The Bald Soprano
serves a great time, full of laughter! The cast and crew consist of students from all corners of the Commonwealth and beyond – the cast: Jesse Romano (Brewster, MA), David Madden (Carver, MA), Erika Fay Greenwood (Cranston, RI), Kristin Gonzales (New Bedford, MA), Rob Wilson (Pembroke, MA), and April Womble (Plymouth, MA); production staff: scenic design, William Sexton (Bridgewater, MA); director, Duncan Passell (Duxbury, MA); stage manager, Angela Harrington (Kingston, MA); lighting design, Sam Mosher (Middleboro, MA); assistant stage manager Chinedu Ibiam (Randolph, MA); and costume design Miranda Giurleo (Burlington, MA).

Hands-Free While Driving Law
Now in Effect!
Police departments are out in force to ensure residents are sticking to the rules. Here are
some
key points to keep in mind.
You can only use electronic devices and mobile phones in hands-free mode, you are not permitted to hold or support any electronic device/phone, you cannot touch device for texting, emailing, apps, video, or internet use, activation of GPS navigation is permitted when the device is installed or properly mounted. Any handheld use is only allowed if the vehicle is both stationary and not located in a public travel lane but is not allowed at red lights or stop signs.
A good rule of thumb is, if you can put your vehicle in park in a safe place, you can use your phone but otherwise, hands-off. If you are under 18 you cannot use ANY electronic device. All phone use while driving is illegal, including the use of hands-free mode, so talk to your teen about this one specifically. The fines and penalties will be high.
Check Mass.Gov for details.
Please be safe on the roads and just put the phones away as you drive your vehicle.

Special Thank you for a Special Honey Dew
It is so joyful to see that there are people who take the time to make people who are homeless and in need feel loved and cared for.
With this in mind I would like to give a special thank you to Kathleen, Alex, and their children Steven, Chase, Jae Jae, and Joeey.
Kathleen and Alex are the owner operators of the Bridgewater Honey Dew located on 1485 Pleasant Street, Bridgewater, MA.
Every week this family donates baked goods that go directly to the homeless and those in need at our L Street Mission in Brockton.
Recently this amazing family sponsored a raffle to support the homeless. The raffle was a huge success, and because of their efforts, the L Street Mission was the recipient of a full truckload of clothing and items. These items are being distributed to those who are most in need.
Too many times the homeless are forgotten and not treated with the dignity and respect that we all need. I cannot put into words my appreciation of your support.
Thank you all so much for your love and kindness.

Equilibrium & balance:
A worthy quest for our lives... not just balance between work and family, but in meeting all of our physical and spiritual needs. To work and provide for a home & clothing, be challenged intellectually, have companions who understand and encourage us, as well as those that make us think differently; to exercise and eat nourishing food which will allow our bodies to function better and to laugh and be hugged and touched.
Meeting these needs is a necessity, allowing us to function better in all of our relationships, our families and in community.
"Democracy is the only system capable of reflecting the humanist premise of equilibrium or balance. The key to its secret is the involvement of the citizen." ~ John Ralston Saul
"Moral Education is the source of that spiritual equilibrium on which everything else depends and which may be compared to that physical equilibrium or sense of balance, without which it is impossible to stand upright or to move into any other position." ~ Maria Montessori
"The major work of the world is not done by geniuses. It is done by ordinary people, with balance in their lives, who have learned to work in an extraordinary manner." ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
"It's a helluva start, being able to recognize what makes you happy." ~ Lucille Ball
|
Have a wonderful week, Dear Reader. You are worthy of a balanced life. Sending hugs.
~ Jacquie
