Thank You to the Workers

Paving our roads
Building our cars
Protecting our communities
Teaching our children
Thank you to the fierce activists who fought, and fight, for fair wages and safe conditions. This year like never before, America understands that labor is essential for our safety, our comfort, our very existence.
Last week's Village Board meeting was our first hybrid meeting. Click here to was the meeting video. We spread out tables and chairs in the gym at the Joseph G. Caputo Center to provide distance. Thank you to all who helped create a forum where the public may safely engage with officials both in-person and online. We'll continue to work out the technology challenges in our efforts to be an inclusive community welcoming public participation in every way possible. Our next in-person meeting will be September 16.
We called for public hearings on six proposed local laws. These public hearings will open on September 16. Click here for a link to drafts of proposed local laws 1-6 that you are invited to comment on at our next legislative session. Public comments can be made in person at the Joseph G. Caputo Center, online during the live zoom meeting, or in written form to the village clerk (sdonnelly@villageofossining.org) and the Village Board (bot@villageofossining.org). Click here for the full 9/2 agenda.
Community Connections
I'll be in Village Hall tomorrow for Open Office Hours from 10am until 12noon. Come by to ask a question, offer a suggestion or raise a concern about anything village related. If you prefer to meet me outside, weather permitting, please call my cell phone 914-640-0575 when you arrive and I'll bring a couple of folding chairs onto the front lawn for us.
To reach out by email any hour:
- Mayor Victoria Gearity (gearity@villageofossining.org);
- Board of Trustees (bot@villageofossining.org); or
- Village Manager Karen D'Attore (kdattore@villageofossining.org).
Virtual Work Session
We will continue to hold work sessions virtually. This week's meeting opens with a discussion about the long discussed potential development at the property that was once the Brandreth Pill Factory.
One of the local laws we are still working on is Proposed Local Law 7 related to wetlands protection. Our Director of Planning Jaime Martinez will join us to discuss the current status of this proposed legislation.
We will also be discussing a request from the managers of Kemey's Cove to discontinue shuttle service to the train station. I recently spoke with residents of this development who were unaware of this request. The household I spoke with includes a commuter who was concerned that the shuttle may be permanently taken out of service. The lack of communication with residents of Kemey's Cove points to an ongoing challenge to ensure that the people most directly impacted by actions taken by village government are heard as part of the decision making process.
With Regards,
