Spring has Sprung!

Seems like this year is flying by, Daylight Savings Time started Sunday, March 8th at 2 a.m. and we sprang forward. Then Spring starts Friday, March 20th at 10:46 a.m. ET. I am sure many of our Auxiliary members who have dealt with snow, ice and especially the cold Arctic air are saying, "It's about time" and looking forward to Spring arriving.

Spring means longer days, warm temperatures, sunny days, plants and trees blossoming and all the chores to clean up the yard and garden. It is a season of renewal and new beginnings where our organization can offer our Patriots and Veterans support to brighten their day by visiting nursing homes and VA facilities, an ice cream social, helping them with yard work. Use our HOV and CDCE Grant for projects to help them spring into the season.

Spring starts MOPHA Department Conventions and Units start to fill out yearly forms, reports and installation reports. During your Conventions and/or meetings, fulfill your obligations and business and embrace each other with consideration, joy, friendship and celebrate your love of country and each other.

The MOPH Auxiliary Department forms and reports that need to be completed by May 15, 2026, include Chaplain Report and the History-Americanism-Publicity forms. Due May 31, 2026, include Department Community Services and Department Installation Report. The Installation Report can be sent immediately upon installation.

The MOPH Auxiliary Unit forms and reports that need to be completed and sent to the Chairperson or Officer listed on the website due May 1, 2026, will be the Unit Community Services, Unit Chaplain Report, Unit History-Americanism-Publicity and Unit

Installation. The Unit Installation Report should be sent immediately upon installation as some Units have their installation later than May 1, 2026. Due May 15, 2026, will be the Unit Inspection Report.

National found many discretions on both the Department and Unit Installation Report. Bad addresses, email addresses and phone numbers were found to be incorrect. With incorrect information on this report, several rebate checks were returned. Another problem with the report was that when a phone call was required to ask a question or give information to the Department or Unit, the person contacted did not even know they were an officer or appointed officer. Please, ask the people who you put in the Installation Report if they are interested in filling the office.

The monthly National Zoom meeting will be held March 19, 2026, please see the information on this constant contact on how to attend. Information for the upcoming National convention, to be held in New Bern, NC,will be provided. Hope to see you on Zoom.

MESSAGES FROM OUR AUXILIARY LEADERSHIP

National Senior Vice President and National Secretary

Judy Fiddler

Happy Spring Everyone…

Buckeye Chuck was right…I have an early spring.

President Fran, PNP Colleen, PNP Kay Jo and I have been busy working with the National Convention committee in planning what looks to be an exciting week. It will be in New Bern, NC, July 13-16, 2026. The registration information is now on our website… PurpleHeartAuxiliary.org.

It is that time of year for Unit elections. Please consider running for an office, at any level of the organization. Turn in your Installation report as soon as possible. Things can happen and then they are forgotten about. Please verify the information you enter…maybe an updated email address or phone number. This information is used for the directory and our Membership Officer’s files. Email it to me at… mophauxsec@gmail.com. They must be received no later than May 31 to be eligible for a rebate.

Watching for the tulips.

I wish to thank the NEC for electing me as the National Senior Vice after the resignation of Teviah Gilliard. I wish Teviah all the best.

Soon the Units and Departments will be holding the elections for the years 2026-27. At this time, I am asking that the Department Presidents begin the Inspection of their Units. You cannot Inspect your own Unit. In that case, you can ask another Unit President, the Region President or the National Senior Vice to Inspect your Unit. The best time to do an Inspection would be at your Department Convention. When the Inspection is done, please send it to me at mophauxsec@gmail.com. I will continue to use this email through the National Convention in July.

I am continuing to work with the By-Laws Committee in updating our CBL. I am also still doing the duties of the National Secretary.

Have a wonderful Spring…

In Patriotism,

Judy

March is here. In MN we are under a winter storm alert for up to 24 inches of snow. Batten down the hatches everyone the winds are blowing. Up to 40-60 miles winds. Great! Last Sunday it was sunny and 60 degrees. One news person apologized for putting out the patio furniture. This caused the weather change. As we all know when you wash the car it will rain the next day. I know we all are getting ready for spring department meetings. The reports are due. I know, I know every year we have to do this. However, we are having huge problems with the installation reports not being filled out correctly! PLEASE, PLEASE, put the correct people on it. It is so bad when you call a president and they tell you that they aren't the president. How embarrassing for that department or unit. Then we have wrong addresses and phone numbers. You have to double check names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

Ways and means is sending a shout out to all departments and units to get items together from you state for the auction table. We can also use gift cards from big box stores these seem to be a big hit. Also, we will have another jewelry table. Please no pieces with missing parts on them. I know that pins or brooches are getting to be popular again.  Now is a great time to contact stores to conduct a viola drive. This is a great way to raise money to help our veterans. Also, have membership forms with you to sign people up. When at the meetings think up ways to bring members in.

The convention is open to register. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. It's like a big family reunion without the family drama. I know when I'm blowing snow in the high winds the beach sure sounds nice.

Received two very good grant requests since we last met:

To give help to a Veteran who lost everything in a fire!

Fund to be used to purchase sensory equipment for the Memory Care Department of a VA (not purchased by the VA system)

iPod touch devices, talking watches, huggable weighted animals, etc.

Reminder I'm always available for your questions and guidance.

Americanism:

Something different than I have suggested before. Show you care and do more for your chapter members. God Bless our chapter members! Make them feel like they are special Select a member of your chapter (I'm thinking of one who doesn't make the meetings

regularly) reach out to the member, talk to them, interview them. Make them feel like you really do care about their service

and what they gave for all of us. Include the interview at your meeting, in a news letter your unit sends, pass on to the chapter members for their new letters, etc.

Maybe this will be two fold and it will also encourage a family member/members to join the auxiliary also!

Sgt.-At-Arms

It is now time to be talking with your officers about the upcoming department conventions to see how you can assist.

We will continue to do the "Hidden Object" in the General Orders. Just remember to let me know that you have found it and where you found it. Drawing will be at the end of the Thursday night Zoom meeting.

Please continue to read the General Orders and hunt.

Share the information with other members. Use the information you read to include in letters/emails to members. Get some great ideas for your units and departments. Let's keep everyone informed. A lot of time and information goes into these General Orders and it is for ALL our members. If this organization is going to continue it is up to all of us, doing our part. Enjoy and have Fun.

In Sympathy and Memoriam

Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom called the following members to their Eternal Reward:

(Always sad to share, but never too late to send a card when possible)

Please note: Due to the length of the updated list of our beloved Auxiliary members who have been called to their eternal resting place, a different format has been attached for easy review. It is hoped that the attached Word document will assist Department and Unit Chaplains as well as Units as they review and update their rosters. On behalf of the National Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary, we extend our most sincere and deepest sympathy. We are all aware of the challenge it has been to identify the status of some members and surely appreciate all the assistance received. We are grateful to and give a special shout out to National Membership Officer, PNP Cheryl Perez, who continuously researches the Auxiliary’s Membership roster for updates.

National Co-Chaplain

Gwendolyn Gilliard, PNP

Firstly, humbly giving honor and praise to our Creator for having us present to see the arrival of the third month of the year of our Lord 2026.

While I find a lot of people are still focusing on New Year’s Resolutions, many others are focused on the opportunities of the forty-day season of Lent. Like most significant Christian faith and other religious observances during this time of year, Lent began on Ash Wednesday, (5 March), which is the Wednesday following Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday and will go through Thursday, April 17; notably and in between, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated 17 March, with Palm Sunday following on March 24th. Coming in close measure to New Year’s Eve concerning self-improvement, I have found that many dedicate the Lenten season to reflection, repentance, self-examination, and spiritual refreshment through fasting for the renewal and strengthening of their faith in preparation for Easter (Resurrection Sunday). Writing this article takes me back to my own journey to Jerusalem, Israel years ago, when I walked the fourteen stations on the path of the Way of the Cross—an experience I still carry with me. That experience would take more space than I have here, but I can testify that I remain in unexplainable God-blessed awe, perpetual reverence and worship, with utmost respect for our God--our Creator!

May I suggest that wherever your belief or faith lies, you take time for self-care-- which is always in season and the right thing to do, as well as giving thanks to our Creator, in faith.

Chaplain’s Chat. The next Chaplain’s Zoom Chat is planned for Thursday evening, 26 March. Department and Unit Chaplains are encouraged to participate but all are welcomed to join the Zoom. Continuing with the theme of Encouragement is Connection Connecting and inspiration moments. Think about: Who, Where, When, What is my faith in? as we share with each other on this journey. Looking forward to seeing and talking with y’all.

BTW, the National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2026 celebrates “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”  You are already making a difference-thank you.

*Sharing an invite message from MOPH National Chaplain:

“Please join with National Chaplain Carlton Cannon for our annual “PRAYER AWAKENING.” We have dedicated the first 90 days (Jan – Feb – Mar) for a time of consecrated prayer; each day at 12-noon, for 10 minutes, wherever you are. Pray for each other, our families, our homes, our military veterans and allies, our nation and the various military veterans’ organizations will take place! I know prayer changes things, and when two or three of us prayerfully join together, “We will GIT’er Done for HIS SAKE!’

Let MOPHA team-join in and do this as we let love resonate and abound freely without hindrance because to WHOM we all belong.  AMEN!!!

We ask that You continue to prepare our feet to take us wherever we should go on our journeys to serve with the hands as the servants You have purposed us to be in the role of women; and for all of this Lord, we are thankful to You for giving us the desire to be of service to others, loving one another. Thank You Lord for our forerunners and in the present now for being our Source, our Refuge, and our Strength during all manners of things going on in this world. Father, we pray for hardened hearts to be softened and Your Word to be known to our government and other leaders, the nations and increased vigilance; we pray for our children, the Church, health and relationships, healings, protection of those in harm’s way; encouragement for the downhearted/demoralized and all humanitarian situations and for all of the aforementioned prayer requests; and, we ask that as You have entrusted us as stewards for our families and organization You will tender us with divine guidance as decisions are made. Thank You Lord for hearing the prayers of other prayer warriors and answering according to Your purpose and plans. May this and our prayers be honest, trusting You to forgive and heal, that Your goodness will follow us all the days of our lives. All these requests Lord we humbly submit to You as Your glory and power is revealed. In Your Holy Name. Amen

What about me? In these turbulent times, it is easy to complain, criticize and ridicule those around who may have a difference of opinion or look differently. But, to truly be Christian, we must remind ourselves that we are God’s handiwork, created in His image and guided by His grace. As the world seems to turn upon itself, each must be the shining example of a life well lived. Living by Christ’s example, good deeds performed by each of us, are the goal we strive for. We are an extension of His love. It is our prescribed duty to shine as Christ himself was a shining light in the darkness. We move towards loving one another as He has loved us. Our world needs for those discouraged to see how lives well lived with Christ can be beautiful and how good works impact others. May those who see us each day, doing God’s will, recognize that our lives have been forever changed and God has shared His grace day after day after day.

Ephesians 2:10. “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”

Praising the Lord,

Kay Jo

As the March wind blows, so does the contribution of women.  March is women’s history month.

Though the 19th amendment in 1920 fulfilled the principal of feminism it was not geared toward all women.  Women of color continued to face obstacles until the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Women are a vital part of our society and through the years have proven their worth by inventing several items that make our lives better today for both men and women.  The Military Order of the Purple has made history by having three women in the primary leadership positions of National Commander, Senior Vice and Junior Vice.

Let’s stand tall and proud of all the things women do – we are the backbone of hundreds of inventions that have bettered our lives and the lives so many others.  We stand by and support the patriots in all they do .

So, we as MOPHA members, we should be proud to continue the legacy of innovativeness, self-sacrifice and unity.

Let the wind continue to blow us in a positive and unified direction of sisterhood.

Happy Women’s History Month.

“WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH”

(March 1 – March 31, 2026)

The theme for Women’s History Month 2026 is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” As the NWHA explained, society is at a time in history where many global challenges are converging: “climate change, economic insecurity, healthcare disparities, corruption in high places, threats to democratic participation and most recently, the War in Iran.” The Military Order Purple Heart, USA is blessed to have three of our finest Combat Wounded Veterans to lead our distinguished organization in these chaotic times!

National Commander Tracey Brown; National Senior Vice Commander Francis Figueroa-Lowe and National Junior Vice Commander Josephine “Jo” Keller have continued to perform their Patriotic duties in an exemplary manner, in spite of the many existing challenges. We will continue to pray for each of you!

There is a law that guarantees the possibility of accomplishing impossible things. (Mark 11:22-23) says; So, JESUS answered and said to them, Have faith in GOD. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. The law of miracles guarantees the performance of impossible things. Miracles take place in JESUS’ name, with power flowing from the invisible world where GOD is, through the spirit of man, where the center of our being is, through the mind of man, where doubts can arise, and out into the world around us through thoughts and the spoken word.

JESUS said, “Every Kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls” (Luke 11: 17,18). This is a universal truth. The best of all plans can be destroyed if we lack unity. When there is division, plans can not succeed! This is the reason Satan does everything he can to cause division. Because we are so divided, suspicious, and focused on each other’s weak points, we are breaking the most important key for corporate success: UNITY…

I respectfully salute each of you and our prayers are with you!
