Good morning friends and colleagues,

As this is our last newsletter for the month of July it is hard to believe August is almost upon us. Though this year at times has felt both lighting fast and achingly slow, it is amazing to recall what we have all been through in the last few months and how we have grown as a community. As we continue our journey through this tumultuous year, we must remember to stay strong and support one another. We are all in this together.

Below are some reminders and highlights from this weeks newsletter:

  • It's time! A date for the 2020 Cleveland Design Awards has been set. Call for entries are available now and online submissions opened today, July 27th.

  • The Keene Lunch and Learn titled Healthy Walls: Rainscreen and Ventilation has been rescheduled for August 20th. Please click the revised registration link below under events.

  • Interested in becoming more involved in AIA Cleveland? See the list of open board positions below and forward your inquiries on to David Craun at dcraun@bialosky.com

AIA National has opened registration for two important events:

  • Called AIA's most important event of the year, Architecture in Turbulent Times is an all day virtual seminar that will discuss how we aim to approach design when it comes to equity, environment, health and the economy. Join the discussion by clicking the link below.

  • A joint AIA-ACSA Seminar on Climate Action - Intersections, is to take place July 28th and 29th by offering up two 90 minute panel discussions. If interested, read more by clicking the link below.

AIA Re-Occupancy Assessment Tool

Architects and allied professionals are in a unique position to coordinate a range of mitigation strategies that, in aggregate, reduce the risk of exposure to and transmission of COVID-19 within non-health care settings. The goal of this assessment tool is to promote best practices that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public while creating opportunities for businesses, schools, restaurants, and other non-essential facilities to provide services.
This document provides architects, private clients, and civic leaders a framework of strategies for reoccupying buildings and businesses that are in the process of transitioning from being fully closed to fully open; including:

  • baseline parameters for re-occupancy
  • architectural and engineering strategies for site and site arrival, building envelope, fixtures and furnishings, plumbing and HVAC
  • administrative policies and procedures to reduce the spread of pathogens and support physical distancing
  • policies and procedures related to PPE
