Kindness: Our Greatest Witness

In today's world, kindness can sometimes feel like a rare gift. We live in a culture where disagreements quickly become divisions, where social media rewards outrage, and where harsh words often seem louder than gentle ones. For many LGBTQ+ Christians, this reality is especially familiar.

Many of us have heard hurtful words, faced rejection, or endured judgment from those who claimed to represent God. Some have felt excluded by churches, condemned by religious leaders, or targeted by voices holding political, cultural, or religious power. Those wounds are real, and we should never minimize them.

Yet as followers of Jesus, we are continually called to something different.

Scripture reminds us: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32 And: "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt." Colossians 4:6

Our faith is not measured by how loudly we defend ourselves, but by how faithfully we reflect Jesus Christ. That doesn't mean remaining silent in the face of injustice. It doesn't mean accepting mistreatment. But it does mean choosing love over bitterness, compassion over cruelty, and kindness over retaliation.

Kindness is like a candle in a dark room. The darkness may be large, but a single flame changes the atmosphere immediately. It doesn't argue with the darkness. It doesn't attack the darkness. It simply shines.

Every act of kindness is a small light. A welcoming smile. An encouraging text. A patient response. A word of understanding. A willingness to listen. These simple acts reveal the heart of Jesus more clearly than any argument ever could.

As LGBTQ+ Christians, we have a unique opportunity. Having known what exclusion feels like, we can intentionally include. Having experienced judgment, we can offer grace. Having longed to be seen and loved, we can help others feel fully seen and fully loved.

Jesus said that people would know His followers by their love. Not by their politics. Not by their arguments. Not by their ability to win debates. By their love.

May we be the people who show the world what authentic Christian love looks like. In a time when kindness is often in short supply, let's be known as a community that gives it away freely.

The best response to unkindness isn't more unkindness.

It is love that refuses to stop shining.
