"A classical vintage that perfectly suits the Opus style. Gorgeous, pecise, layered and stretched out, a brilliant Opus, concentrated and yet delicate. Feels pared back and captures the spirit of early Opus, when it moved forward the conversation of what Napa could be." 100 Points, Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux

"An enticing aroma of violets, cherry blossoms, fresh blue and black fruit and great structure define this beautiful, age-worthy wine."

99 Points, James Suckling

"The 2021 Opus One is another riveting wine from this estate."

99 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

"delivers shimmery red, black, and blue fruit layers with a firm texture of rounded tannins and impressive tension, finishing long and fragrant."

98 Points, The Wine Independent

"The 2021 Opus One is absolutely gorgeous. Vibrant, layered and quite sensual in feel, the 2021 possesses the concentration and depth of years such as 2013 and 2010 but with more polished tannins. "

Greetings Collectors,

This is an exclusive opportunity to purchase the winery's re-release of 2021 from the original Napa (and Bordeaux) wine legend: Opus One.

These wines sell out only a few months after release, as the worldwide demand is extremely high. In addition to the 2021 release, we have on hand a few cases of these beautiful wines in library vintages!

Opus One is the story of a shared dream of two great men of wine: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. Having met for the first time in Hawaii in 1970, the partners eventually agreed to launch a wine together in the Napa Valley. The joint venture they named Opus One produced its first vintage in 1979 and opened as a winery in 1991.

With scores ranging as high as 100 points, these are truly impressive wines. In fact, here is what Antonio Galloni had to say in his most recent review:

"Michael Silacci and his team at Opus One consistently turn out the single best wine in Napa Valley produced in volume, something that is extremely difficult. The 2019 Opus continues to develop beautifully, while the 2021 is an infant with a very bright future."

2021 is an amazing year for Napa Cab - Vinous Media rated it 95-98 points and here is what they had to say:

"Two thousand twenty-one is a fabulous vintage in Napa Valley. That’s the good news. The not so good news is that production is down sharply, 30-50% in many cases. A combination of sustained heat and drought, plus the accumulated shocks of 2020, contributed to paltry yields. It was another very early harvest, and yet the wines have tremendous energy as well as finesse."

The 2021 Overture is traditional “second wine” meticulously crafted with organically grown fruit from the estate vineyards. The fruit is harvested and vinified with the same care, precision, and attention to detail as Opus One. This Cab-heavy release (89%) is the first time Overture has been vintage-dated, and given the scarcity of the vintage, we say grab it while you can!

As a special bonus, we've included all our in-stock prior vintages of Opus One - quantities and links are below.

Cheers,

—James Tran

2021 Opus One Napa Valley

100 Points - Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux:

A classical vintage that perfectly suits the Opus style. Gorgeous vivid plum colour, sculpted, balanced, with a ton of lift, waves of rose petals, iris and peony, soft grilled cumin, sage and white pepper spice. Love the hidden power here and the supple slightly chalky tannins that are structured in their architecture with a precision and carved quality. Precise, layered and stretched out, a brilliant Opus, concentrated and yet delicate. Feels pared back and captures the spirit of early Opus, when it moved forward the conversation of what Napa could be. Michael Silacci director, 100% new oak for ageing extremely well integrated even now.

99 Points - James Suckling:

"An enticing aroma of violets, cherry blossoms, fresh blue and black fruit and great structure define this beautiful, age-worthy wine. Subtle layering of fruit and oak spices between firm, fine-grained and supportive tannins gives it a calm intensity. So elegant and polished. Hints of cinnamon and graphite accent blackcurrant and blueberry flavors that linger and grow in a long finish. Already attractive to drink, but best after 2029." (May 2024)

99 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

The 2021 Opus One is another riveting wine from this estate. Pure cassis, graphite, chocolate, and nicely integrated oak, as well as an undeniable sense of minerality, all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, building tannins, wonderful purity and precision, and a great finish. This is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet in the making, and it's going to evolve for 20-25 years if well stored.

98 Points -  The Wine Independent:

"The 2021 Opus One is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% each of Merlot and Malbec. It was bottled in July 2023. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with gregarious notions of creme de cassis, wild blueberries, and redcurrant jelly followed by hints of cedar chest, sassafras, vanilla pod, and dark chocolate plus a waft of lilacs. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers shimmery red, black, and blue fruit layers with a firm texture of rounded tannins and impressive tension, finishing long and fragrant."-LPB (Jun2024)

97 Points - Vinous:

The 2021 Opus One is absolutely gorgeous. Vibrant, layered and quite sensual in feel, the 2021 possesses the concentration and depth of years such as 2013 and 2010 but with more polished tannins. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and a touch of cinnamon open gracefully. Sweet floral notes extend the mid-palate into the finish, where silky tannins wrap it all together. The 2021 is an incredibly promising Opus One." - Antonio Galloni (Dec 2023)
