This week’s topic: UConn's Intellectual Property Policy and Compliance with the Bayh-Dole Act

UConn's Intellectual Property Policy

Have you made an invention or discovery?

At UConn and UConn Health, research and the development of new inventions and technology occur daily. The University encourages this development and supports the commercialization of intellectual property created by faculty, students, and staff.

The University's Intellectual Property and Commercialization Policy outlines the rights and responsibilities of employees involved in the development of an invention.

Researchers at UConn and UConn Health who have created inventions or made discoveries must follow specific steps in order to protect their intellectual property, and commercialize or license their inventions and discoveries. Click on this new Compliance Clip to learn more about these steps, and the Intellectual Property and Commercialization Policy at UConn.

The Bayh-Dole Act

If you have created an invention or made a discovery using funds from a federal grant, you must abide by the requirements outlined in the Bayh-Dole Act. The Bayh-Dole Act is a federal law that provides opportunities for universities to own, patent, and commercialize inventions developed under federally-funded research programs.
