St. James’ Cathedral's

outreach program's

Foot Care Clinic

by Kathy Biasi,

Outreach Manager

The mission of St. James’ Cathedral’s Foot Care Clinic is to provide foot care that is urgently needed by the most vulnerable people in our neighbourhood. Free foot care helps improve people’s health and lives. It provides dignity for the individuals that are receiving the care and the ability to build and create community while at the Drop-In. It improves their ability to access resources that they have not been able to because of their limited ability to walk to them. It is also an opportunity for them to find spiritual support from an Anglican priest.

This program is unique in the City of Toronto because it allows the participants access to a Chiropodist, Dr. Minh, and serves anyone that is underhoused and of limited means who needs foot care. Presently, most other foot care programs throughout the city provide support only to those who have diabetes. In collaboration with the Downtown East Foot Clinics, Dr. Minh booked 1600 appointments in 2023. He has stated that the St. James clinic is as busy as our partner’s clinic that sees patients 2 days a week.

In our yearly survey, we ask about the impact that our outreach programs have had on participants’ lives. They indicated that the care and interactions they have had with Dr. Minh are wonderful. The community members have told us that having their feet taken care of has changed their lives for the better. They have stated that they can walk without pain, have sores, foot fungus and wounds treated and healed. This has given them the ability to care for themselves and be more self-sufficient. For example, they can shop for food in stores that they could not walk to before. This allows them to choose healthier, more varied, and less costly food items.

Your donation to FaithWorks supports this Foot Care Clinic

and all our ministry partners.
