Special Meeting - Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees will hold a Special Meeting on Aug. 23, 2023. The agenda will include the Appeal Hearing for the Jun. 6, 2023, Planning Commission decision regarding the Connell Resources Site Plan Approval.

What to expect:

  1. The Board of Trustees will review all information presented to the Planning Commission about the Site Plan Approval as defined in the official record that will also be available to the public. The "official record" includes meeting recordings, packet material, and all public comments available to the Planning Commission at the time of the site plan decision.
  2. Because the hearing is based on the established record, the appeal process does not allow new public comment to be heard at the Aug. 23 meeting. Not taking new public comments protects the established record and due process.
  3. Only the parties in interest (appellant and applicant) can speak at the hearing.
  4. The Board of Trustees may take one of three actions as defined in the Municipal Code section 15-2-120

The Trustees may:

  1. Affirm the decision
  2. Affirm with modifications
  3. Overturn the decision

The meeting packet containing information about the record will be available prior to the meeting here:

Treatment Plants Construction Update

The Town of Wellington began expansion projects for the water treatment and reclamation facility in spring 2022. Since the groundbreaking, tremendous progress has been made, and both projects are on track to be completed in 2024. The combined project cost around $83 million, with both projects currently on budget.

The expansion aims to increase our municipal water infrastructure's capacity, efficiency, and reliability to meet current and future demand to ensure access to safe and clean water for our community. Primary goals for the project include meeting new water reclamation regulatory requirements and improving drinking water taste.

Why is an Expansion Necessary?

  1. Compliance with Regulations: Water quality standards and environmental regulations constantly evolve to safeguard public health and the environment. We can incorporate the latest technologies and treatment methods to meet or exceed these stringent standards by upgrading the water treatment and water reclamation plants.
  2. Aging Infrastructure: The existing treatment plants and distribution network are aging, leading to operational inefficiencies and an increased risk of system failures. Water infrastructure is used 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, placing heavy use on the infrastructure. The last improvement projects started at the Water Reclamation facility in 2016 and the water treatment plant in 2000. Upgrading the plants will ensure a modern and reliable system to deliver water to your homes and businesses.
  3. Population Growth: Over the past decade, our town has experienced significant population growth, leading to increased water consumption. The current water treatment plant's capacity is reaching its limit, making it essential to upgrade the facility to accommodate the rising water demand.
  4. Improved Water Quality: The upgraded water treatment plant will incorporate advanced filtration and disinfection techniques (Ozone), providing a higher quality of drinking water. This improvement will have a positive impact on your health and well-being.
