October 2021
Congratulations Rudrani!
YVCHR's Volunteer of the Month
Rudrani was first introduced to YVC by a friend and since then she has been an active youth volunteer. In fact, she has participated in our Summer of Service camp every year since 2017! Choosing a favorite project was challenging for her, but this summer's sensory garden at Newsome Park Elementary was high on her list. Whether volunteering with YVC, Operation Smile, or holding leadership positions in clubs and organizations in and out of school, volunteering is clearly a passion of hers. Rudrani loves volunteering because it gives her the opportunity to make a difference and truly help those in need. Her advice to new youth volunteers is to "...make the most of it!" because you are truly making "an amazing[ly] positive impact [on] someone."

After high school, Rudrani plans to attend college to pursue a degree in medicine. Being a surgeon has been a dream of hers since she was a small child.
Fun Facts: When she's not volunteering, Rudrani is leading her school's varsity tennis team as its captain, as well as dancing, reading, playing piano and singing.

YVCHR is a youth development organization, BUT it takes a village of service-minded adults to teach and model the importance of service to youth. So if you would like to join our team we are looking for adults (21+):

  1. Who would like to join one or more of our special events committees (i.e. Canstructure Competition, Give Local 757, etc.)
  2. Who would like to serve alongside youth and facilitate service-learning experiences as a back-up Team Leader

If you're interested in volunteering or would like more information, please email Kimberly, YVCHR Program Director.
Community Knights Bingo
High school students and adults who would like to help local schools and nonprofit organizations (like YVCHR!), please consider signing up to volunteer at Community Knights Bingo. Proceeds from bingo are donated back into the Hampton Roads community!

NOTE: Community Knights will sign volunteer logs for those who need evidence of service hours.
This is not a YVCHR-facilitated activity, so a team leader from YVCHR will not be on-site.

Special thanks to our event sponsors for supporting YVCHR's Topgolf Tournament!
