Grants Update: 2024 Impact Grant Recipients Making a Difference

Our 2024 Impact Grant recipients—Tykes & Teens and ORCA—have made tremendous progress in delivering positive, lasting change in Martin County.

Tykes & Teens: Walk-In Assessment Center

Since opening in August 2024, the Walk-In Assessment Center at Tykes & Teens has provided immediate mental health services to 169 children. This critical program ensures that youth in crisis can access same-day appointments, with 100% seen the same day and over 91% linked to ongoing care. Most importantly, 99.4% of youth served have avoided inpatient hospitalization.

Family feedback reflects the program’s exceptional quality and welcoming environment. One parent shared, “Before our initial intake, my child wasn’t willing to speak to anyone. Now they’re willing to talk about their trauma thanks to Tykes & Teens.” Another noted, “I was very surprised at how easy the process was… no wait whatsoever.”

ORCA: One Health Fish Monitoring Program

ORCA’s One Health initiative is building environmental awareness through citizen science. Since June, nearly 500 Martin County residents have engaged in the program, with over 190 fish collected for research on pollutants like mercury, glyphosate, and microplastics. Volunteers have conducted 13 training workshops and contributed to sample analysis, empowering our community to understand the link between environmental and human health.

Thanks to this grant, ORCA is launching a new online data platform during Citizen Science Month, making research findings accessible to the public for the first time.

We are proud to support these transformational projects through our collective giving. Stay tuned for more updates as our 2024 Impact Grants continue to change lives and strengthen our community.

Together, we are creating positive, lasting change through collective giving.

📣 We Need You!

The Membership Committee is looking for volunteers to help during the 2025/26 season.

  • We especially need a Community Captain for Mariner Sands to help continue fostering connection and engagement within this vibrant group.

  • We are also forming a Young Professionals Committee to engage and recruit more young professionals into Impact100 Martin.

If you have an interest in helping out, please contact Judy Zanchi or Sarah Murphy at communitycaptain@impact100martin.org.

Planning events is almost second nature to Karen Homer, one of our new board members and co-chair, with Beth Lonnes, of the Events Committee. While she says she “fell into” the field, she started her own company, HKH Innovations, in the late 1980s - and is still enthusiastic about each new business adventure.

Although Karen primarily focuses on large-scale civic celebrations (she produced this year’s Philadelphia Eagles hometown Super Bowl parade!!), she occasionally handles smaller private functions. Having good friends on the Gold Coast and her husband Chuck’s decision to retire brought them to Florida in 2021.

Further inducement came from COVID, which demonstrated that much of her work could be done from her Florida home.  She still travels to function sites, though in their leisure time, Karen and Chuck love traveling the world. A neighbor, Terry Anderson, told her about Impact100 Martin. The idea that women together were a force that could make changes in society initially drew her to membership, and she loves the sense of community we foster.

A Look Back, as the Member Engagement Committee Plans for Season 9 Impactful Conversations

Impact100 Martin was delighted to host Impactful Conversations – Our Environment, Preservation and Recreation in mid-February at the beautiful Frances Langford Pavilion in Indian Riverside Park. This picturesque Indian River location was the perfect setting for nearly 70 Impact100 members and their guests to hear from Martin County experts about the innovative efforts to protect our unique environment and provide meaningful recreational opportunities for all.

Guest speakers included Vincent Encomio, John Mahle, and Kevin Kirwin. Their engaging presentations sparked a lively Q&A session. Following the event, a catered boxed lunch was provided by ARC’s Caring Café, a past Impact100 Martin grant recipient. Attendees also received a collection of helpful resources mentioned during the program:

For more, we encourage you to visit the Martin County Parks and Recreation website to explore the wide array of parks and preserves available in our community.

Looking ahead to Season 9, we are planning three more Impactful Conversations focused on our remaining core focus areas: Health & Wellness, Family, and Education. Stay tuned for more details, but be sure to Save the Dates for our first two upcoming events:

●     November 19, 2025 at the Kane Center

●     January 15, 2026 – location to be announced

Join us as we continue learning about the needs of Martin County and how our collective giving can make a lasting difference!
