HONORING A LOCAL HERO

This month we are honoring a local hero, Dave Aronberg. Dave was elected State Attorney for the 15th Judicial Circuit in November 2012 and served until December 2024. He is a former Assistant Attorney General, White House Fellow and Florida Senator.

After two decades of dedicated public service, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg started his next chapter as managing partner of Dave Aronberg Law, P.A., a boutique firm specializing in civil and criminal litigation, as well as land use planning.

As State Attorney, Aronberg led a team of 115 prosecutors and 180 professional staff in five offices throughout Palm Beach County. Aronberg’s leadership led to high state rankings in conviction rates for both felonies and misdemeanors, a decrease in the number of juveniles direct filed into adult court, and a greatly improved working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

In 2016, he created a Sober Homes Task Force that has made more than 120 arrests for patient brokering and insurance fraud in the rehab industry, and has led to several new Florida laws and regulations that have become the model for other states. Aronberg’s efforts also convinced Google to restrict advertisements and improve screening for addiction treatment. The crackdown in rogue sober homes and corrupted drug treatment contributed to a 14% decrease in opioid-caused deaths in Palm Beach County in 2021, compared to the previous year.

Aronberg frequently appears on national television as a legal commentator. He is passionate about speaking out on criminal justice issues, adding transparency to our legal system.

Fire Truck Collides with Brightline Train in Delray Beach: A Sobering Reminder to Drive Safely Around Train Tracks

A Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck was recently involved in a collision with a Brightline train, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of caution and awareness at railroad crossings. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, but the incident highlights the critical need for vigilance when navigating train tracks, especially in areas with high-speed rail services like Brightline.

We wish a speedy recovery to the 15 injured in the collision, and we are keeping them in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Brightline, known for being one of the fastest rail lines in the region, operates at speeds up to 125 mph in some areas. This makes it essential for all drivers—emergency responders and civilians alike—to exercise extreme caution at crossings.

Safety Tips for Driving Near Train Tracks:

  1. Stop, Look, and Listen: Always stop at railroad crossings, even if there are no flashing lights or lowered gates. Look both ways and listen for approaching trains.
  2. Obey Signals: Never attempt to cross when lights are flashing or gates are lowering. Trains may be closer or faster than they appear.
  3. Never Stop on Tracks: Always ensure there is enough room on the other side of the tracks before crossing. Never stop your vehicle on the tracks.
  4. Be Patient: Trains have the right of way 100% of the time. A few extra minutes of waiting can save lives.

This unfortunate accident reminds us that safety around train tracks is non-negotiable. Whether you're a first responder or an everyday driver, taking the time to follow railroad crossing laws and procedures can prevent tragic accidents. Let’s all commit to driving safely and protecting lives—ours and others.

In Memory of Richard Silver

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Richard Silver, beloved father of Bruce Silver and cherished husband of Helene Silver, to whom he was devoted for 57 years. Richard is survived by his wife Helene, his daughter Barbie (Joseph Sordillo), his son Bruce (Nicole Silver), his brother Barry (Sheila Lascher Silver), and his three adoring grandchildren, William, Zoe, and Michael Silver.

Born and raised in Newburgh, N.Y., Richard’s life was defined by family, hard work, and dedication. A second-generation jeweler, he carried forward his family’s legacy with exceptional skill and passion. Richard owned and operated Silver's Fine Jewelry in Boca Raton from 1986 until 2020, when the store closed due to the pandemic. Prior to that, he ran a successful jewelry store in Newburgh, earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship and outstanding service.

Richard was more than a jeweler; he was a dedicated family man and a true pillar of strength for those who knew him. His kindness, hard work, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered and deeply missed.

May his memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
