Taxpayers: Grow Brooklyn offers free, quality, professional virtual tax prep assistance.
Under direction of the City, until further notice, Grow Brooklyn will not be able to hold in person tax service . We now have virtual tax prep offerings to continue providing high quality tax prep service for free without you having to leave your home.

Virtual Assistance
Our virtual program meets all IRS security standards, and filers' information will be as secure as if they were visiting one of our in-person tax sites. Filers can also virtually “meet” with a live human being on the other end of their computer using our UberConference app. All tax issues can be discussed in real time. Appointments for this end-to-end support can be set up at www.growbrooklyn.org/tax-appoinment .

Phone Assisted Tax Prep
As a part of our virtual service, filers can start their tax return for FREE today and call us with your questions; they can just go to www.growbrooklyn.org/freetaxes to find out how to create a login and start. In this self-preparation service filers can prepare and efile their own return for free with our self-preparation tools provided by the IRS for Grow Brooklyn. We will be using TaxAct or OLT with ample phone support from our staff who are all Volunteer Tax Preparers certified by the IRS.

Virtual Drop-Off
We are also offering a virtual drop-off option. We can prepare tax returns for filers without the filer ever having to leave home. Filers can upload their intake documents through our online portal , then their returns are completed remotely by an off-site tax preparer using the IRS VITA standards. The virtual appointments are safe, secure and convenient.

Even though we aren't offering sit-down/in-person services, your question(s) are answered by Volunteer Tax Preparers certified by the IRS over the phone. This volunteer may ask for more details to better assist you. If you do not wish to provide certain details it is within your rights.

Small Business Grants Available
Small Business Owners may qualify for a $5,000 grant from the Save Small Business Fund, created by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

To qualify you must: 
  1. Employ between 3 and 20 people
  2. Be located in an economically vulnerable community
  3. Have been harmed financially by the COVID-19 Pandemic

IRS Economic Impact Payments (aka Stimulus Check)
We know that everyone has questions about how and when the IRS will be issuing Stimulus checks, otherwise know as Economic Impact Payments.

Please read this important info to make sure your funds arrive without any delays.

1) Check to see if you qualify: Click here for eligibility

2) Make sure you have an active savings or checking account: For those without bank or credit union accounts previously filed with the IRS,  the time is   now  to open an account to avoid waiting  months  for a physical check.

3) MAKE SURE YOUR ACCOUNT IS REGISTERED WITH THE IRS : It’s  not too late  if you have never given your account information to the IRS. To do so, visit the IRS’ website page: Economic Impact (stimulus) payments  and sign up with your account number.
