The Journey to Forgiveness

Greetings!
“Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.”

Love is in the air at the Ranch, and along with it the need for forgiveness as our equines keep us entertained while they work out their love dyads (triangles & squares) and in the process sometimes find themselves stepping on each others toes!
Watching them work through their challenges and disagreements isn't always easy, but it's amazing how they naturally work out their issues and are able to let go (they don't hold grudges) and move forward as a successful herd. It's a good reminder of how important this skill is for us humans to implement in any of our relationships - love, friendship, work or otherwise.
With the intensity of all we have been going through in our individual lives and as a collective society, there's bound to be a lot of emotional build up and possible anger or resentment. It's important that we are able to recognize when we are holding on to stories or grievances that are keeping us from moving forward. Forgiveness, of both ourselves and others, is a central component of renewal - it changes the story of our future.
Check out our articles below for some tips on letting go, moving forward and connecting with the freedom that forgiveness can offer us.
Wishing you an enlarged future this May,
Dr. Val

The Journey to Forgiveness - How to Forgive and Why you should
|
|
Virtually everyone has experienced being hurt by the words or actions of another. Maybe you were bullied at school, had a colleague sabotage a work project, or your spouse betrayed you. When we have been hurt - either physically or emotionally - it is very easy to get stuck in fantasies of revenge or bury ourselves in resentment. While such responses give us the illusion of power, they ultimately rob us of the peace and vitality we need to move forward in life. Letting go of past hurts is a powerful remedy.
#1 - Know exactly how you feel about what happened and be able to articulate what about the situation is not OK. Then, tell a trusted couple of people about your experience. Make a commitment to yourself to do what you have to do to feel better. Forgiveness is for you and not for anyone else..... read more

Horses are amazing teachers about accepting reality, staying in the present moment, and moving forward.
Mark* came to Stand InBalance after a painful divorce that left him bitter, lonely, and lost. He was immediately drawn to a horse that he thought would be "easy" to work with. As the session unfolded, Mark found himself struggling to get the horse to like him and partner with him in the activities. As Mark became more frustrated and resentful... Read more

Forgiveness in the Workplace?
I was sitting in a coffee shop yesterday and overheard a conversation between two young women. One was saying how angry she was after her annual evaluation at work. She thought her boss "liked her" she said. This statement led down the rabbit hole with the two women assessing and agreeing every small irritation they had accumulated, some small, some personal, some financial. For example, Alice "always" gets the best leads, that is why she is top sales this month. Joe got the promotion "I should have had", the sales team doesn't understand how hard we work in processing, etc.
The conversation was a litany of wrongs done to them, I heard no solutions, just a lot of blaming, judging and whining... Read More

Lady came to Stand InBalance rail thin, with stomach ulcers and severely neglected feet. She has improved tremendously during her time with us so far & as her healing has progressed she has been able to start helping some of us lucky humans as well, through her participation as a cofacilitator in our Equine Assisted Psychotherapy programs.
However, she still has a ways to go in her rehabilitation. Her ulcers have returned after having previously received treatment & improved, due to medication she recently required for her joints, and so we have to do another round of costly ulcer treatments, ($1,133 for medication alone) but we are hopeful they will work again. In addition, we are still working on helping her feet with special orthopedic shoes ($219 for a pair). All of these costs do add up and it's donations like yours that help equines like Lady to be able to heal and in turn, help others with their healing. Click here to learn more about how you can help!
