Feng Shui on the Job

You've heard the adage, we spend 1/3rd of our lives in bed, so make sleep count. But the same is true for our work. We spend 1/3rd of our lives (and often much more) working. How's that going for you? Are you in your dream job? Are you looking? Are you just making do until the next right thing comes along? Does your job have potential?

Our jobs can be just a paycheck. But our jobs can also be inspirational. Can be motivating. Can be empowering. Can give purpose. Can change lives. There's nothing wrong with it being just a paycheck. But let's strive to make a bit more from what we do and who we are at work given how much time we spend. In this issue, we hope you will find ideas and tips to support your work life - no matter what type of job or career you have or want - and let's light up your career and passions.

See you next month, ❤️ the International Feng Shui Guild

So, let's start at the beginning...with the Career gua. This life area is in the front center sector of the space, facing the home or room, on the Feng Shui bagua. We love the explanation from Peg Donahue of Feng Shui Connections below...

From Peg..."The Career gua influences your opportunities and path in life. If you’re looking for a new direction or you’d like more inspiration about how to spend your time, work with your Career gua. Refreshing and activating the front-center areas of your home and rooms can help you to rekindle your passions, tune in to your dreams, and pay attention to opportunities that come your way.

The Career Gua and Water Energy

"The Career area is associated with the Water element. The archetype for Water is the Philosopher. The Philosopher explores deep mysteries, searching for the truth. In the process, ignorance takes a back seat as new knowledge is uncovered. What role does “the Philosopher” play in your life? Is there something you’d love to learn or discover either about yourself, your work, or your life? In what areas do you embrace mystery or delve deeper into a topic? Where do you yearn to spend more time, scrutinize the meaning of the topic, or gain insight?

Emphasize Metal and Water energy to create more flow

"If your Career or Life Path could benefit from more insight or use a boost, or you’d like to create more flow in your space, balance the area using décor that emphasizes Metal and Water elements. This can help provide a breakthrough and gets things moving in a new direction. Metal strengthens clarity and Water brings flow. If you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or in fear about things, you may have too much Water energy. In that case, tone it down by removing Water or Metal or adding Wood, Fire or Earth energies."

Harmonizing Feng Shui and Ergonomics in the Workplace and Home Office

Linda Bischoff, Avalon Lane Studio

"In today’s fast-paced world, creating a workspace that nurtures both productivity and well-being is more important than ever. While ergonomics ensures physical comfort and efficiency, Feng Shui adds an energetic dimension—aiming to balance the environment to support mental clarity, focus, and prosperity. By combining ergonomic design with Feng Shui principles, you can create a workplace or home office that not only feels good physically but also flows harmoniously on a deeper level."

Sit Like a CEO!

“First thing, command the door! Stop sitting with your back to busy entrances like a quivering rabbit waiting to be pounced on by a wolf. Being able to see the door comfortably from where you're sitting, standing or lying down helps you feel confident and in charge. Arrive early and take the best seat. Move your chair around to the other side of the table. Change seats if you don't like the one you've got. If need be, position yourself to see the entrance through a mirror or reflective surface.

“The desks of the Presidents and CEO's of successful companies face directly at the door. These people exude confidence and their positioning shows that whatever comes into their life, they'll deal with it straight away and confidently.

“Sit like a CEO! People who are administrators often sit sideways to the door and the minions huddle in their cubicles like scared bunnies with their necks exposed. Body language tells all, so what are you telling yourself and the world by which seat you choose?”

Fame and Reputation is not Just for Athletes or Actors

"Fame and Reputation is important Feng Shui. The energy around how one is perceived in a career, in a circle of friends, a neighborhood and a community is absorbed from and reflected back into the universe in powerful ways. Validation and recognition for our efforts at work, home, and life helps us grow and sustain our psyche. We all need recognition in some form or fashion."
