On this month's ONE WILPF Call we'll examine two new important books

Screwnomics
Screwnomics: How Our Economy Works Against Women & Real Ways to Make Lasting Change
by Rickey Gard Diamond

Screwnomics could significantly boost your recruiting efforts and ignite new efforts towards system change. It presents a feminist view of economics with a style that is humorous, accessible and one that inspires sisterhood and activism.

"As designed now, economic theory devalues family, love, young children, music and art, nature's splendiferous beauty, and the faithful devotions, the loyal commitments, that make any life worthwhile... Yet its rules have made money the central story of our time... that threatens to blot out any tale but that single one, as if money were all that mattered."

Screwnomics -- A tangible opportunity for branches to reach new segments of their community.

Red-Green Revolution
Red-Green Revolution: The Politics and Technology of Ecosocialism

by Victor Wallis

We'll be very lucky to have with us author Victor Wallis discussing his new book Red-Green Revolution. We'll schedule a more in depth-discussion with Victor early in 2019.

"Finally, we have the definitive work on ecosocialism with Red-Green Revolution. Victor Wallis brings his brilliant editorial skills to writing a highly readable, compelling, and essential book, a must read for everyone who cares about the fate of the earth in this era of capitalist implosion with socialism no longer a possible alternative, but rather a requirement for survival."
--Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz , author of An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States

The book argues that sound ecological policy requires a socialist framework, based on democratic participation. It's a relentless critique of the capitalist system that has put the human species into a race against time.

Opportunity for Branch Outreach

Screwnomics is an especially good tool for reaching extremely busy women who may not want to commit to membership in WILPF (right away) but might be willing to read and discuss together a book about patriarchal economics that makes it impossible to get ahead financially, and what to do about it.

It includes the sexual history of economics and the unspoken but widely applied economic theory that females, including Mother Earth, should always work for less... or better, for free. But beyond a study of how we got here, Screwnomics offers hope for a better, more inclusive future, and the tools to make that hope a reality with real life solutions and a call to action.

For branches looking for a new angle to approach a wider cross section of women in their communities -- this book, and the tools we are providing to promote it, are effective for gently introducing women to WILPF through lessons that closely relate to their own lives and struggles.

Screwnomics comes with a downloadable FREE workbook, and it suggests many of the same solutions WILPF has been promoting: public banking, cooperatively owned businesses, and alternative currencies, among others.

"The glass ceiling still in place... turns out is actually made of green paper. Women need to talk together about who pasted this in place....this book is for the bit players, you and me, who only keep the whole show going, making sure everyone eats and has clean socks." Screwnomics Author Rickey Gard Diamond.

During this ONE WILPF Call there will also be announcements and opportunities for branches to report on their August Hiroshima events.
Do call in! We'll be listening for you!
