Paved Trail Update:

We are excited to announce that the Paved Trail Project at Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is nearing its final stages! The paving itself is now complete, providing a smooth, accessible surface for all types of activities in the future. However, the work doesn’t stop here. To ensure the highest quality and usability of the trails, we have a few finishing touches still in progress.

Our partners at Terus will be back on site in the coming weeks to feather out the edges of the trails, ensuring smooth transitions at every turn. They'll also be making some minor adjustments to the trails for our grooming machines, ensuring they can easily maneuver around the new paths in the winter. We will also be taking care of cleaning up the organic material and dirt piles left in the trees from the project.

We’re also pleased to share that Peter will be heading up the rebuild of the gravel pit area. His work will not only restore it to its former condition but improve upon it, enhancing the functionality and appearance of this key area. Big thanks to Brandt for the donation of a cool Bulldozer. This will make the cleanup pretty fun for Peter.

Thank you to all our members and partners for your patience and support throughout this project. We look forward to unveiling these improvements soon, making our trail network better than ever!

Hold Your Excitement:

Patience is Essential to Longevity

We are all super excited to get out on our brand-new paved trails, but we need to ask everyone to hold that excitement for just a little longer!

The trails are freshly paved, and the asphalt needs time to cure. Asphalt curing is a crucial process that allows the surface to harden and gain the strength it needs to withstand traffic and weather conditions. During this time, the pavement undergoes chemical changes, such as oxidation and polymerization, which improve its durability and longevity.

While the warm-ish fall weather helps speed up the curing process, it still takes several months for the asphalt to fully set, especially when rain pays a regular visit. Using the trails too soon could damage the surface and reduce its lifespan, which we all want to avoid. Hold off on getting out there!

We will keep you posted on when the trails are ready for action! Until then, we ask you to please hold off on using the paved trails. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
