CVS Caremark Is the Benefit Funds’ New Pharmacy Benefit Manager

As of July 1, CVS Caremark is the Benefit Funds’ pharmacy benefit manager. The switch from Express Scripts to CVS Caremark is the result of a recent review that found CVS is a better fit for our members and offers an extensive, nationwide network of pharmacies. Members received their new Health Benefits ID cards in June and may now access the Preferred Drug List, Specialty Medication list and other prescription information by visiting www.1199SEIUBenefits.org/nbf-prescription. Members will continue to follow the Benefit Funds’ maintenance drug access program, The 90-Day Rx Solution, for long-term medications for chronic conditions, and, through CVS Specialty, members can access specialty drugs that treat conditions such as multiple sclerosis. 

Benefit Funds Launch Dependent Eligibility Verification Program

The 1199SEIU Benefit Funds have launched their 2024 Dependent Eligibility Verification Program, again conducted by HMS, a firm specializing in healthcare eligibility verification. The program verifies the marital status of 1199SEIU members’ and retirees’ spouses to protect benefit dollars and ensure members and their eligible spouses continue to receive quality healthcare coverage. If your 1199SEIU employees and members have questions about the program, they may contact HMS at (844) 489-5346 to avoid interruption in their spouses’ coverage.

Training and Employment Funds Offer Licensed Practical Nurse and Pharmacy Technician Programs

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) are offering Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Pharmacy Technician training programs at select institutions to prepare members to work in LPN and Pharmacy Technician positions. The programs reflect TEF’s commitment to members’ ongoing career development, enabling them to obtain skills leading to industry-recognized credentials, while addressing critical worker shortages in the healthcare industry. Tuition assistance, counseling, tutoring and other academic support services are provided. The programs will be available in fall 2024. Members who are interested should complete the Workforce Partnership Licensed Practical Nurse Inquiry form, the Workforce Partnership Pharmacy Technician Inquiry form or call our Workforce Partnership Counselors at (844) TEF-1199.

Child Care Corporation’s FALC Holds Third Annual Olympics/Field Day 

On June 5, the Future of America Learning Center (FALC) celebrated its third annual Olympics/Field Day in a new venue, the gymnasium of P.S. 246 Poe Center, FALC’s school partner. The preschool and pre-kindergarten-age students walked from FALC headquarters in the Fordham section of the Bronx to the nearby event site, escorted by police officers, families, teachers and Funds staff. Wearing brightly colored clothing and accessories to represent their individual classrooms, the children took part in a relay race through an obstacle course that included running, hopping, walking on balance beams, throwing basketballs and riding on scooters—with parents and teachers joining in. The event closed with the children, their families and staff coming together for a group “rainbow” photo.

FALC, which was established in 1993, provides children ages 18 months to 5 years with a nurturing, safe and stimulating educational environment, as well as cultural, racial, ethnic and economic diversity that fosters cooperative experiences.
