Dennis Craig Anderson

Craig Anderson was born in Red Bluff, Tehama County, California, and spent his childhood on a ranch in Gerber Township. He graduated from Red Bluff Union High School and Solano Community College.

He married Sandra Kaye Miller on January 1, 1963, in Red Bluff. Craig is survived by his wife, Sandra; his son, Wesley Anderson; his daughter, Wanda Annis; three grandchildren; and two great‑grandchildren.

Craig served with the United States Navy from 1961 through 1964 aboard the USS Magoffin (APA‑199), a Haskell‑class attack transport based in San Diego. The ship operated in the western Pacific for at least six months of nearly every year, rotating between her home port of San Diego and 7th Fleet deployments — the standard cycle of amphibious exercises, coastal operations on the West Coast, and WestPac deployments carrying troops and cargo.

Following his naval service, Craig joined Chevron Corporation, where he spent decades and ultimately retired as a Marketing Terminal Manager. His assignments included several northern California facilities, among them San Francisco International Airport.

Craig’s application to join the Sons of the American Revolution was approved on August 26, 2011. His Patriot ancestors were Patrick Anderson, a Captain in the Pennsylvania Musketry Battalion, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and Hezekiah Davies, a Lieutenant in the Pennsylvania Flying Camp.

Craig served the Sacramento Chapter, SAR in many capacities, including as President in 2015, 2016, and 2026. He was an active and proud member of the Color Guard and School Guard. He co‑chaired the 1776 Book Challenge, which placed 4,600 books in 51 schools across seven Northern California counties, impacting more than 32,000 students. He also served on the Veterans Committee and supported the Sea Cadets Program.

He served the California Society, SAR in leadership roles from 2018 to 2022, including Secretary, Vice President, Executive Vice President, and State President in 2022. Most recently, he served as chair of the Spirit of America High School Youth Leadership Program.

Beyond the SAR, Craig served as a Director of the Freedoms Foundation of Sacramento and was a member of American Legion Legislative Action Post 861 in Carmichael.

A memorial service is being discussed for later in August or September.
