Hope

Good morning, Kristin,

This month’s Momentum magazine from the NCEA features an article titled Hope as Innovation. In this Jubilee Year, themed Pilgrims of Hope, Dr. Riley writes that hope is innovative precisely because “it is enabled by the Incarnation.” He further observes that our Catholic schools are uniquely positioned to help students recognize the presence of the divine in the ordinary.

On Monday night, as over 450 students from our Catholic high schools gathered in song, I was reminded that hope is not passive—it is lived, shared, and given as a gift. Those present witnessed that hope made visible in the unity of student voices, distinct yet harmonious, just as we are in Christ.

From that unity springs hope, which Pope Francis describes as “the certainty of being on a journey with Christ toward the Father who awaits us.” This hope, ever present in our schools, leads us to an encounter with Christ.

We will not meet at St. Thomas for our principal meeting on February 27. Instead, I will be scheduling regional meetings over the next two months to connect with each of you directly. In the coming days, I will reach out to propose a time for your region to gather. I look forward to visiting with you in your regions, hearing your insights, and learning how we can better support you and your communities.

With gratitude,

NICHOLAS FORD | Superintendent

Office for Catholic Schools | Archdiocese of Seattle
