August News & Updates

August | Issue 5.0

Greetings Kim,

It's hard to believe August is already here.

As we enter the last month of summer, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the progress we've made and share some of our plans for the future.

Our team has been busy planning some exciting events. We will host our first pop-up this September 22-24 through our social enterprise, Women's International Gift & Gallery. The event will be more than a shopping experience. Style icon Lynn Spence will be on site and there will be lots of other fun and engaging activities throughout the weekend.

We're also busy planning our annual Walk A Mile in Their Shoes walk - more on that below. Mark your calendars now for this important event: October 14, 2023.

Looking ahead, we have some other exciting projects in the works. We've been fortunate to be able to grow out team, enabling us to explore new partnerships and the possibility of expanding some of our programming with the goal of reaching more women, girls and gender-diverse individuals with our array of free, participant-led programming. I will share more as these things develop!

As always, I'm amazed at what this small and mighty organization can achieve when we have the support of community members like you. Thank you.

Child Care Update

Children and their families at our St. Margaret child care centre had a fun time cooling down together back in June when our centre celebrated the end of the school year with an ice cream party!

Staff at all of our child care centres work to build relationships with families through in-person special events and gatherings so parents and guardians know exactly who is caring for their little ones each day - and because it's fun to get social sometimes!

Discover the Power of Connection, Community, and Donation: Hosting a Small Summer Fundraiser

Summer is a season of warmth, relaxation, and the perfect time to come together for a meaningful cause. What better way to embrace the spirit of giving and togetherness than by hosting a small summer fundraiser? At YWCA Cambridge, we believe in the power of community-driven initiatives that not only bring people closer but also create a positive impact. If you haven't considered it yet, here are three compelling reasons why hosting a small summer fundraiser can be a fantastic idea.

1. Fostering Meaningful Connections:

Hosting a small summer fundraiser provides a unique opportunity to bring friends, family, and acquaintances together under one roof. The relaxed and joyful ambiance of a summer event encourages meaningful conversations and allows individuals to forge new connections or strengthen existing ones. Whether catching up with old friends or making new ones, the fundraiser becomes a platform for shared experiences, laughter, and lasting memories.

2. Building a Stronger Community:

Communities thrive when they come together to support a common cause. By hosting a summer fundraiser for YWCA Cambridge, you're not just raising funds; you're creating a stronger, more tightly-knit community. People from diverse backgrounds unite with a shared goal, fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity. As you work towards a cause you believe in, you'll find that your small community becomes a powerful force for positive change, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference.

3. Making a Meaningful Donation:

The heart of any fundraiser lies in the impact it makes. Your efforts to gather friends and loved ones for a delightful evening can lead to a substantial donation to a cause that matters. When you support initiatives like Small Steps to Success through YWCA Cambridge, you contribute to a brighter future for individuals and families in need. The event symbolizes more than just material goods; they represent a tangible step towards empowerment, education, and opportunity for those striving to achieve their goals.

So, if you're looking for a way to make this summer truly unforgettable, consider hosting your own small fundraiser. The rewards are not just in the funds raised, but in the connections formed, the community strengthened, and the lives touched. Let's continue to spread the warmth of summer through acts of kindness and generosity that ripple far beyond the season.
