Post Hurricane Isaias Update
The Village of BHI reports that the damage assessment team began its inspection of the Island today and found a significant amount of downed limbs and trees, and minor roof, window and door damage. No flood damage was observed. There was, however, significant structural damage found on Middle Island caused by a presumed tornado that touched down there at about 9pm last night.

All major wynds were cleared today and they've begun clearing secondary roads. That effort will continue tomorrow.

BHA is grateful for the hard work by the Village Council, Village staff and the volunteers who have spent the last several days preparing for and cleaning up from this storm. Thank you for taking care of this special community.
Village of BHI Opens on Wednesday
Village Hall and the IPC/Post Office will both be open normal hours tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 5th. Please note, however, that mail delivery from Southport has been delayed.

Normal Ferry Operations Resume; Tram Service Limited
BHI Transportation announced today that normal ferry operations have resumed. Currently, tram service is only offered to and from the contractor yard. Remember that ferries are operating at 50% capacity.

Information regarding the reinstatement of full tram service and other updates will be available at the BHI ferry web site.
Important: Swim Advisory
State officials advise against swimming in any Brunswick County water (including the ocean) that was impacted by Hurricane Isaias due to the increased level of harmful bacteria that could cause adverse health effects. During a storm such as Isaias, flooding can cause coastal waters to contain bacteria from varying sources such as failing septic systems, sewer lines, overflowing manholes and wildlife. BHA Office Reopens Wednesday
BHA's office will reopen on Wednesday, August 5th at 9am. Staff will inspect several areas, including the communities it's responsible for managing and will contact homeowners directly if needed.

Please be aware of the requirements for obtaining approval to trim/remove trees both from BHA and the Village of BHI. There is a provision for the immediate need to trim/remove a tree without pre-approval after a storm, but we ask that the process be followed. Click on the link below to review the process prior to cutting.

Note: Homeowners in the dripline communities of Keeper's Landing, Surfman's Walk and Sumner's Crescent, should contact Pam Rainey at pamr@baldheadassociation.com regarding a concerning tree and she will facilitate the work using BHA's pre-approved vendor.
August 2020 Island Report Available
