A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco

ORE Parents!
This year’s school fundraiser is coming soon! This year it will be called
The Oak Ridge Derby Splash and Dash! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally following Spring Break on 5/1. Families will again this year be asked to gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on 5/10. With our big goal of raising $30,000 for improved technology for our classrooms and our new STEM Lab, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB! Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world. Last year, the students had an amazing learning adventure with the Boosterthon Team, and we know that this year is going to be even better than last year!
Donations will go toward classroom technology and the school’s STEM Lab and the donations will be collected via pledges through the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors throughout the 2 week-long fundraiser. The way that this happens is each day,
starting May 1, the students go to a short assembly where they learn about a new character trait and receive a new “Pledge Challenge”. So, each night they will come home and work with you to find new pledges and new ways to seek additional support for their run on May 10th. We want to make sure we are clear about this so that parents don’t get frustrated due to the on-going (2-week long) nature of this particular fundraiser 😊. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
This coming week is a very special week at Oak Ridge as we celebrate all of the amazing volunteers in our school during
Volunteer Appreciation Week. There will be a very special Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast in our Media Center on Tuesday, April 9th and we look forward to recognizing our volunteers on this special day and throughout the week. We are a stronger school due to all the support that we receive and we want all our volunteers to know how much we appreciate all the work they do each day and week! Report Cards will come home on Tuesday, April 9th. Please send back the white card and brown envelope on Wednesday, April 10th. Classrooms will hold informal classroom Awards Ceremonies on Wednesday, April 10th to honor students who have been named a Super Colt and those who have earned A/B Honor Roll. Also next week on Thursday, April 11th we invite everyone out to the 1st Grade Student Performance and PTO Meeting.
We look forward to another great week at ORE!

We need a NEW PTO PRESIDENT for SY 2019-2020!
|
Please consider stepping up to become our next
PTO PRESIDENT!
This job includes monthly meetings, serving on the School Based Leadership Team, supporting PTO Board members and their committees, running the Cash for Colts fundraising campaign, liaising with school administrators, helping to plan the PTO budget, serving as a point person for committee Chairs and event planners to make sure that the year runs smoothly and more!
The outgoing President is committed to working with the new President to help them in their first year – especially in August-October, which is the busiest time of the year. This is a job that sounds daunting, and is a lot of work, but
i
t is exceptionally rewarding and the 2019-2020 President will be supported but an outstanding PTO Board that is incoming and already in place!

Let's help our new STEM Specialist!

Earlier this year, Oak Ridge Elementary welcomed our new STEM specialist, Ms. Massey. As part of her cool lesson ideas, she has put together a "wish list" for various items. (Who knew coffee filters could contribute to STEM education?) Click
here for a copy of the wish list. Questions? Please
email Ms. Massey directly.
Thank you very much for your support!
