CLOSING THE COTTAGE OVER THANKSGIVING?
Secure it. Label it. Store it.
Last spring was a powerful reminder of what ice, wind and high water can do. Docks, boats, furniture, water toys and other property broke loose and drifted across Lake of Bays — creating hazards on the water and leaving neighbours searching for owners.
Before you close up this fall:
- Remove loose items from docks and shorelines
- Secure anything that must remain near the water
- Pull boats and watercraft well above the waterline
- Label docks, boats and other property with a phone number and/or email address
If it can float, assume it can get away. Remember, even heavy Muskoka chairs were found floating in the middle of the lake! A little extra work this fall can prevent property loss, dangerous floating debris and a lake-wide lost-and-found next spring.
